Hi, my ds (29 months) was prescribed Miralax today. He's always had

infrequent stools (like every 4 days), but in the past few months has

started going 10 day stretches with no bowel movements. In between

times we have days of screaming, crying, ds says he hurts, walks on

his tippy toes, and has become an expert at holding it in. I'm sure

this is probably really familiar to many of you. We did try Little

Tummies laxative drops at the lowest dosage, but they made him cramp

badly and gave him explosive bms.

I had spoken with his ped. about this a couple months ago and she

recommended a list of high fiber foods to try and soften his stools

and make the experience less painful for him. This worked for

approx.

3 days, and then we were back to the old pattern. Finally today it

had been 13 days (well, he had some skid marks on his diaper the last

4 days, but nothing significant) so I took him back in. She felt his

abdomen and said " Well he must be passing something - his belly is

soft! " (I felt like she was suggesting I'm making all this up). But

she did prescribe Miralax for him, at the full adult dosage, everday

for 1 week, and then 3x/week thereafter for 2 months.

In researching today, now i'm not sure i want to start him on the

Miralax (and I still need to read what you folks have had to say

about

the stuff). If I don't use it, I'm still not sure what to do. The

ped. did agree that the time to get ds back on track is right now

before he does permanent damage to his bowel. Help.
