Guest guest
Oprah doesn't know much about food though and I predict this designer fruit juice will die a natural death like Mangosteen and Tahitian Noni are. It's just another food being marketed for a designer price. Similarly, I got advertising from a Xango representative in the mail yesterday. She has the 'nads to put her personal message on BC Cancer Foundation letterhead. That's fraud, and as Dr. Raph Moss pointed out, a single test tube study on a cancer cell line doesn't mean it cures cancer anyway; lots of things kill cancer in a test tube, even table salt. So, monavie_wellness2, did you just pass through to spam us with no intention of following up? If you're indeed still here, let's discuss Acai on its merits and belay the hype. Guest guest
Actually, isn't it more important to question Dr. Perricone's knowledge than Oprah's? I've read a couple of his books, and I think what he imparts has value to readers ignorant of modern nutritional principles. And this is important to forwarding nutrition...if you decide to read his newest book and learn something valuable, more power to you...it is then well worth the money and your time. But with my nutritional background, I didn't find the details of his prior work overly original. And somehow I am not surprised his chosen a designer fruit to stand behind. He had quite a supplement and personal care business going, last I knew. > > > > >
Guest guest
You're right; Dr. Perricone's splash with Acai is only playing the health market and I'll be he knows better, but that's the way Oprah likes it on her shows. Remember when pine bark extract, pycnogenol, was the latest thing? Then when we had a small fad run with proanthocyanidins in grape seed extract, afte that we found that Mt. St. Helen's grapes had more than 5 times the proanthocyanidins than either other grape seed extracts or pycnogenol. Well, the Acai berry contains proanthocyanidins more like Mt. St. Helens grapes and the product Protovin made from them, which you and others with a nutritional background may know about. That's about it. I guess my point more clearly made is that many people follow fads and they want the 'best' or the biggest all the time, losing sight of the fact that variety of antioxidants, as opposed to overindulging with a single antioxidant, is important. Also, because glutathione from cold-processed whey and raw food IS undisputed as the master antioxidant and it also regenerates other antioxidants, their dose can be much lower. I didn't have the pleasure of reading Pericone's opinions because so many books are incomplete or biased; I look for references that back up their key points. In this case, the relevant information on Acai consists of a smattering of nutrient and antioxidant information and a huge amount of hype. Simply put, Acai does not have properties that measure up to the hype. Acai thus represents nothing more than a pleasant addition to an already antioxidant-rich diet, like Mangosteen, Goji and Tahitian Noni do, and because we can get already get adequate antioxidants petty cheap, spending a small ransom on it is simply a fun thing, not really material to a health regime. Guest guest
Dr. Perricone sells creams for up to $500 per jar. He is making it hand over fist. Guest guest
You have to wonder about the damage this will do to the Amazon!
