Essential fatty acids (EFAs) are not naturally produced in the body, and they

supply linoleic and alpha-linolenic acid that have anti-inflammatory

properties. They help maintain normal membrane structure and regulation of

cell function, mediate cytokine effects, modulate the HPA axis, and may have

antiviral properties. Anecdotally, EFAs improve pain, fatigue, and depression.

They may decrease muscle fatigue, morning stiffness, and joint tenderness;

help the digestive, cardiovascular, and immune systems; and assist

reproductive functioning, metabolism, and brain functioning.
