Guest guest
Howdy! New member from the Great Southwest. Phoenix, Az. Regarding donor complications. We go on the based upon the Medicare Model. Our understanding is that the transplanting hospital is responsible for any donor complications directly realted to the donation surgery, i.e. the surgical site. Until the donor is " recovered " from the surgery. No time limit. We rely on the surgeon, if they say a complication is donation-related, we will pay for it. And we will err on the side of taking care of the donor rather than leaving them out there with no support. You have to consider the potential for negative publicity in these situations too. The recipient's insurance is responsible for the pro fees for donor complications, not the hospital, just like the donation surgery. Re: Non related Kidney Donor--Gone Wrong. We just had our Consultant speak with us about transplant cost report items and he stated that if your donor's medical situation can be traced back to his donation your center will be liable until he has recoved.(Bev Larson .
