Guest guest
Hi Becky-- at 18 months, there are some options that you could look into such as getting a little more magnesium into him-- there is something called Baby Calm for babies, and at his age, I would suspect he could still use it. We just had a Super Supplements built in our town and I saw it there--you could find it online I'm sure. Probiotics are the good and bad bacteria that the gut needs. There is a yogurt out by Dannon I think... the name of it escapes me right now, but it comes in a green container. It contains bifidus regularis, which is just their trademark name for whatever combination of bifidus bacteria they are using. The body needs GOOD bacteria like bifidus, lactobacillus acidophilus and so forth. Most commercial yogurts do not contain enough of the live cultures and this particular one contains higher amounts than most commercial yogurts. I would suggest doing something like this if he will eat it, as it is one way to get some probiotics into him. You can also buy probiotics in a capsule form to supplement. (Pour them onto food directly). They do make chewable probiotics for kids, and you could certainly try a chewable, but they do not contain enough 'live" ones in general. By putting some healthy bacteria back into his gut, it may help to regulate and soften stools. It is a safe thing to do, as we all benefit from these bacteria. They are not the same kind of bacteria that cause illness or infection. They are the good guys. There is also a chewable fiber called Fiber Choice...it is inulin, which is considered a pre-biotic. Prebiotics are substances that create a favorable environment for healthy bacteria to thrive in the gut. You can break the wafer in half or smaller and have him chew the smaller pieces. These are some things that I would try. WBecky wrote: Hi, I'm Becky. My friend referred me to this group because my son, (18 months) has constipation issues and was on glycolax for 5 months. I say "was" because I recently stopped giving it to him. It has never really worked that great for him it was always either too much (like 10-12 explosive dirty diapers a day) or not enough. The final straw was a 9 day stint without going, despite trying to go everyday and producing nothing. We have an appt with a Pedi-GI at the end of January. Hopefully, we'll figure it out or come up with some more alternatives to the glycolax. Right now we're giving him psyllium husks and it's not working that great either, but at least it's more natural.>> We've added a few new members in the past week--feel free to post your > questions! The only thing is - you have to read the labels for allergens if you are GFCF
