Ah, Bill -

I was just being a Tennessee rebel - obviously still suffering from jet

lag and that return trip from Japan. I still can't fall asleep at a

decent central time zone hour. And my body isn't terribly happy about

all the things I did while I was there - BUT it was all worth it.

I think there are 10 or so members here.

Hi Kathy,

There is no comparison between last time and this time! At this point

last time I was still in the hospital, asking people what happened

and what date is was. :)

Luckily I started working from home last year, because I couldn't get

out much so it's easy for me to get back to work. I don't feel myself

yet but I'm doing so well that I've been working for about a week now.

The biggest change is I can walk now! I'm still using the crutches

when I go out but it won't be long, I just need to build up the

muscles that I haven't been using. It's such a big change it takes

some getting used to. I was adapting to the wheelchair culture.

I hope your surgery tomorrow gives you as good results as mine did.

I'll certainly be thinking of you all next week and will be anxious

to hear how you are. Just hang onto that morphine pump! I kept mine

for 3 days until that surgical pain was definitely gone.

  • 8 years later...

My name is April I'm a 30 year old SAHM in Oklahoma. Untill last night

I thought I was crazy. I was reading a book and it ref. Hyperacuis I

jumped out of bed and ran immediatly to my computer. Upon doing

research I relized I am more like the Misophonia than the H. I CANNOT

sleep without earplugs, the bass from my neighbors cars will have me

passing the house and cussing untill the cops come make them shut it

off. My husband has not been allowed to chew gum in the last 4 years, I

rush through my supper so I don't have to sit there and listen to every

one eat. My FIL mouth breathing makes me start cleaning the house

anytime he comes over just so I don't have to be in the same room. I

have never talked about this with anyone and my husband just thinks I'm

a drama queen so I cannot tell you how glad I am to find a support group

Hey there April! I wanted to welcome you to the group. It's amazing

that feeling once you realize " you are NOT crazy " ! I thought I was

too and I even commented to my mom one day that she better send me

chocolate if I get committed to the loony bin. LOL. This really is a

good group of people here who understand what you go through. As for

your husband... mine thought the same thing about me and had in fact

labeled me " crazy " himself. He has come around a bit after reading a

few stories here and seeing that it's a real condition. Especially

when I (and others here) got our letters back from the NIH saying that

they are possibly interested in performing a study about this

condition. We hope to hear more about that possibility in a few more

months. In the meantime, I hope you can find some things here that can

help you out a bit. Take care.

Thank you everyone for the welcome into this group. Yest was one of the best days I've had in awhile. Just knowing I'm not the only one helped reduce some of my tiggers.

Joan,

If I can ever get my husband to listen I might take you up on that offer. Maybe the spouses and family members need their own group. So they can talk to each other and see that its not just their loved ones.

I never could understand how my husband could sit there and listen to it. I can hear it even with our T.V. on and the kids being loud. Now I at least understand that he really can't hear it or at least not like I do.

Is it the first second for you? or can you put up with it for awhile? Thats whats always bothered me is I have no threshold for it the very first note I hear sends me over the edge and then I can't not hear it. Even after it stops I can still hear it in my head for a while? Is anyone else like that?

I've been known to cuss at the neighbors for their bass too. And call the cops. It's completely intolerable for me.

I used to call the cops when I lived at Ft. Sill all the time. Not only when it was bass, but any loud music coming from a car or home.I just think it is RUDE and immature regardless. But, the BASS gets to my 4S in a huge way.

For me, it's from the first second. Whether it's eating or rubber bands or chewing gum - my reaction is immediate.

It's also interesting for me to read how many of you are affected by neighbour's noise - I've ALWAYS been like that yet I didn't put this down as one of the triggers for 4S. I'll call police for loud music, bang on doors, etc. I used to have a neighbour years ago in an apartment block who had his tv on loudly at night - and the room it was in backed onto my bedroom. He was Chinese, so I'd lie in bed and hear muffled Chinese language movies late at night through the wall. I used to stomp over to his front door and POUND on it. He was shorter than me, spoke very bad English and always seemed so offended when I asked him to turn his tv down. I would be so mad at the noise, but found it hard to remain angry with "him", he reminded me of a little koala bear with black hair. Anyway, his tv noise drove me up the wall. Even with ear plugs I wouldn't be able to relax or sleep if I could even hear the tiniest amount of

noise from his tv. In hindsight this must have been a 4S thing too.....
