Guest guest
Dear Dr.Kalantri, It was very terrible news to hear from MGIMS,about the passing away of Prof Dr.Chaturvedi.I had only a week ago, came to know of his grave illness, and as,I read ur mail,my mind raced back 14years ago, when I for the first time had met him in his OPD in capacity as a magazine secretary, and he as it's editor.Togather in that one year, he took out valuable time to refine the magazine contents and was always ready to give his advice,in making that issue a best one.Although ENT as a subject in final MBBs curriculum, does not carry weightage, but his sheer style of teaching made learning the subject a great pleasure.I still remember his opening sentence, when he was starting the topic on nose'IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR THE NOSE,CLEOPTRA WOULD NOT HAVE WRITTEN HISTORY " .Indeed, the institute has lost a great man,and as they say, when ur teacher dies,a bit of you also dies, and that's what we feel today, and we join the MGIMS family in expressing our heartfelt condolence to his family.May his soul restin peace. He was 60. Dr Chaturvedi was found to have a lung cancer exactly a year ago - last January-when he underwent evaluation for his haemorrhagic pleural effusion. He decided to fight out his cancer and was treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. He seemed to be doing well, and began to take an active part in administration. The trauma center right now under construction was his dream child and he and was fully involved with the construction, and design, of the trauma center, His staff would remember him spending long hours in his chair making plans how to equip the center. In November the tumor cells started spreading far and wide. The repeat scan showed that the cancer cells had returned once again. By December the tumor had spread to his peritoneum and fluid started accumulating in his peritoneal cavity. The tumor cells also spread to his brain causing a few seizures. Dr Chaturvedi had decided not to get admitted o the hospital and braved the discomforts of cancer at home . He passed away peacefully at home, in full dignity. As per his wish, he was not offered resuscitation or advanced life support. The institute has lost a brilliant teacher, an outstanding orator, an able administrator, a skilled surgeon, and a humane caregiver. Library shall miss a genuine book lover and the institute shall always cherish the memories of a person who seldom minced words, and was always willing to stick his neck out and take a stand. Dr Chaturvedi leaves behind his wife (Dr Pushpa Chaturvedi, Head Deptt of Paediatrics) his sons (Amit 1989, Rajiv 1992 batch) and daughters in-law (Sona, 1990 batch and Deepti 1992 batch) May his soul rest in peace.
