Guest guest
I gave up sugar March 16, 2004. Combined with increasing my water intake to at least 64 ounces a day, it was the best thing I have ever done for my body. Congratulations and I enjoyed reading your long post. Success stories are always enjoyable to me.
Guest guest
I agree with all the junk in the stores...not just candy but cookies, cake, donuts, etc etc And it is not just Halloween...it is thanksgiving, Christmas Valentines day Easter.....non ending It makes me sick and I have never been a sugar junkie (my downfall is chips and nuts!) Guest guest
I gave up sugar March 16, 2004. Combined with increasing my water intake to at least 64 ounces a day, it was the best thing I have ever done for my body. Was it easy? Oh gosh no! lol not by a long shot. After two weeks of feeling miserable physically I progressed into a 'mourning' period where I was sad and cranky because all my good friends (chocolate and pastry) were not there to comfort me anymore. It was hell going through the bakery section of the grocery store...just pure hell. Giving up sugar forced me to closely examine my relationship with food and I realized the emotional role it played in my life, as well as being physically addictive. Was it worth it? Oh gosh YES! I was able to throw away my medication for adult acne after only a month...only a MONTH! My mood swings settled right down and I stopped having low blood sugar episodes because my blood sugars were stabilized. (possible TMI alert here )- my monthly cycle became so regular I could set a clock by it...and this was after pretty much a life time of never knowing when it was going to happen...crazy, hey?! A user in a previous message stated that sugar is not addictive. It most certainly is. You eat something sugary, you get the rush from it, the rush ends, you crash, you seek out more sugar to eat. It's an evil wicked rollercoaster. Nutritionally, it's a big bust as well. What worked for me was that the diet plan I chose had an Acceptable Foods list, and for some reason, that really worked for me. If it wasn't on the list, I didn't eat it...simple as that. Do I miss sugar? Oh yes, of course I do! You can't go a whole lifetime of indulging your sweet tooth and not miss it when it's gone! I have alternatives that I can make if I really feel the need for something sweet, and I've re-discovered the natural sugars in fruits..yum! Once I realized that social gatherings that food played a big part in were really about the 'social' and not really about the food, that made passing up the birthday/wedding cake etc much much easier. I enjoy myself more now that I'm not trying to scheme about how to score more desserts off the dessert table, you know? It kills me to see Hallowe'en arrive and the stores fill up with cartons and cartons of sugar treats that people are going to happily offer up to children...it breaks my heart...it's so unhealthy. Ohmygosh..long post...sorry...congrats to those of you who read the whole thing! lol I'm pretty passionate about all of this since I know first hand what it did to me, and what doing without it has improved my life. Guest guest
Sue, What works for one person doesn't work for another. To each their own I say. We each have different moccasins to walk in and one size doesn't seem to fit all. I believe that Oprah said that she was doing something similar but cutting out certain foods. She has details on her website including eating suggestions. I love her suggestion of stop eating 3 hours before bed. http://www.oprah.com/presents/2005/bootcamp/eat/eat_rules.jhtml Hugs, in Texas (TnT) Give yourself a real pay raise. GET OUT OF DEBT! Best to eat SMALL amounts of the foods you crave, slowly and enjoy them. Otherwise you are likely to overreact and REALLYstuff. Again Weight Watchers has some really good classes in this type ofstuff. I don't think it works for many people to get to goal but theprogram is healthy and it DOES work to control weight somewhat and to becomehealthy and normal about food.Sue who just got done eating a half a hostess cupcake and enjoyed every biteof it.
