Guest guest
So....in regards to the Dynavox....will Medicaid pay for it? Also....regarding PECS.....is there a company that any of you guys like that sells a big, bad, start-up program (with binders, cards, software, or whatever we might need to get started)? We have someone who's offered to help us pay for a communication device or program for . However, DOES have Medicaid, so if Medicaid will pay for a device like a Dynavox, I'd prefer to spend these one time funds on a PECS program, as is just starting out on PECS at ABA. I was going to attempt to make everything myself, but I'm getting overwhelmed, and my time might be better spent working directly with if I have the resources right now to purchase a program. Any suggestions for a PECS program or a liaison for Dynavox that would help us muddle through any Medicaid paperwork (we're in Dallas county) would be greatly appreciated. Serena > > Hey there. I've been thinking about communications devices here lately, and I'm wondering if any of you have come across anything great out there for toddlers. My son turned two years old on Halloween, and he is non-verbal (no words). I'd love to have something that would boost both his receptive skills as well as to help him communicate his needs while we work on getting the words to come. > > I've seen some cute applications for toddlers for the ipod touch, which my husband has (got as a gift for his 40th bday from his brother), but I'm thinking it's too delicate for my son, who doesn't really have a good grasp of consequences, and tends to toss something he no longer cares to have in his hands. LOL I can just picture the look on my husband's face as tosses his expensive new electronic device across the room. > > How about the dynovox and other similar devices? Are they ever made with toddlers in mind? has Medicaid....would Medicaid pay for a device for him now, or would he have to be older? > > Also, is starting PECS in ABA right now, and I want to do it at home too, but I'm struggling with exactly how to put it together. I've started by taking about 50 pictures of objects that I think that will recognize from our home life (anything from family members to his favorite toys to our car, phone, his shoes, etc). I've got the actual photographs, and that's were I stand. I don't know if I should try to mount them and then put magnets on them, or what. 's got Pica, so he may destroy the pics or attempt to eat them. Is there a software program that I can buy that would help me turn my 4x6 pics into cards, and do I really want to make them smaller? Is there a big PECS program I can buy that would help me to really jump start a great at home program? > > Thanks for the help! > Serena >
