You have 3 days following the initial 5 day assessment to enter and " lock "

the MDS data.

This would be day 8. The data can be locked any time during that 3 day window.

By locking on day 5 - Have you gathered and credited all relevant data from

" day 5 " to the MDS? Or is this lost? Ideally, not locking the data until

after day 5 is over would be the most efficient method.

Any submission not locked by " day 8 " will be paid at the facilities " default

rate " for those first 5 days. This could be very costly, especially for rehab

patients.

We are in 12 PPS homes in Oklahoma as of July 1. We are transmitting the MDS on

day 5. We want to set that as a goal so we have a cushion should we ever

require it.

My understanding is the 5th day is the period of record, but you have a grace

period to transmit up to the 8th day. We are doing day 8 to be sure we have a

sense of the time units thru day 7.

My facility is in upstate NY, a SNF which has still been all inclusive. I

have been told by the powers that be, that PPS will not be in affect until Jan

99 and possibly later than that. I will need that time to get my act together

since we have not been billing fee for service. Anyone have any insight on

software for these billing services. Currently, my facility is using SOS

software for the clinical and business purposes.

I attended a PPS seminar today. They stated:

The MDS has to be completed by day 5... locked by day 8... and transmitted

within 30 days. It was recommended that you transmit before the 30 days...

every week was the recommendation with transmittal.

I believe you are referring to consolidated billing, which indeed has been

postponed. PPS has not been postponed. One of the software programs we use is

" Add on. " You can find several in publications such as " Provider " or

" Contemporary Long Term Care. "
