Guest guest
Hello all, I've heard some talk in recent posts about " finding a temporary solution. " I am in college, thus I do not have the option of a private office. Besides earplugs and listening to an ipod during class anybody have tricks that help them cope with long periods in which avoiding noises is simply impossible? Anything at all, no matter how trivial! Also, I hope maybe this will cheer some of you up. Yesterday was my first day of spring semester and I had four hours straight in which I could not avoid noises. My stomach was in knots thinking about being subjected to noisy classrooms. Somehow I managed without any oubursts or glares! May I add a gum chewer was seated to my immediate right AND left. Has anyone else noticed this pattern in their behavior: in crisis mode they can get past the aggrivation of noises? For example, before handing out my final exam my professor offered GUM to my ENTIRE CLASS! To be perfectly honest, at first I wanted to cry, but I realized getting an A on my exam was more important so my brain went into a type of " intense focus mode " and I didn't notice the noises (of literally everyone in the room with gum.) That experience still fascinates me. How did I manage to get an A while subjected to my worst nightmare; a room full of gum poping? Could there be a treatment for 4s involving situations which trigger that " switch " in the brain which makes specific noises so unbearable? While it seems torturous, it would be an invaluable skill for us 4s'ers to have. Sincerely, Kathleen
