Hi forummembers,

Just having joined your group I already read some of

your post.

To introduce myself: my name is and have been

on a range of ssri's (luvox, paxil, prozac (on which I

am now), zoloft (4 weeks), celexa (8 weeks), a snri

(effexor), trazodon (Desyrel), Serzone, Remeron, two

tca's (amytryptiline and one of the amytryptiline

group (which name I should have to look up).

I live in Europe (the Netherlands).

I started using them around 1992 after I was battered

and had subsequent right leg trouble (twitching of

inflicted muscle strains) paintrouble and difficulty

to sleep (I simply couldn't sleep if I didn't take

half a tablet of nitrazepam every night).

After seeing a pain doctor since 3 1/2 year I have

used many medicines used in painmanagement (Neurontin,

Rivotril (clonazepam) and one or two others; I am now

on tramadol.

(I have tried alternative medical treatments like

acupuncture, tuina massage, physiotherapy, food

supplements in high doses presribed by a physician.

Since one and a half year I do meditation every day

(which calms me a bit) and do reading about meditation

and Buddhism.)

Hardly I could stand the side effects of the ad's

making it impossible to have a " normal " life; feeling

normal and " cheerfull " .

I never had a girlfriend before 3 1/2 years ago (I am

now 47 years of age); my sexual experiences since then

were not pleasurable.

Both relationships have ended.

My problem concerning sexuality is that I have lack of

desire (although " intested " ) I can get erections but

can almost never ejaculate (and then only after a long

frustating period).

I try to date and had one date but she disliked the

sexual troubles I have (though not in a confronting

way she was very outspoken about the reason).

Therefor this ended too (though we like each other and

have been going out).

Tramadol gives some relief I still feel tired all the

time(a bit slow in my reactions although I do my

utmost to be alert), almost to the point of waiting

for things to come (I am not dreading my death really

as I hardly play a role in my surrounding society).

I have trouble concentrating on my job.

I cannot do any sports on a stressing level because of

the injuries; running I can do (slowly (10,5 kms per

hour)) by " leaning " (not stressing) my impaired right

leg.

Biking, hiking and swimming: the same.

I have done some reading (e.g. I read some

recommendations in a book by S. Appleton M.D.

- " Prozac and the new antidepressant " ) and have tried

gingkho biloba, yohimbine.

Some time ago I read about dopamine agonists like

amantadine and bromocriptine.

A newer one is called cabergoline (Dostinex).

I reading about this med it should hardly have any

side effects than the older ones, a BBC documentary

about it called it a sexual aid

I asked my general physician about this but he said

though he normally is very willing in trying new ways

he is not willing to experiment with hormone-like

substances.

In the Netherlands psychiatrists have an aversion to

prescribing drugs at all and only do this when they

are really at odds what to do.

Although some doctors may prescribe ad's liberally

they choose for the wellknown ssri's and sometimes

tca's; they haven't heard of Wellbutrin of Buspar to

treat ssri-induced impotence.

Like other say in this group they merely attibute lack

of sexual desire or other issues as a sign of being

depressed (apparently they say that after taking ad's

people are still depressed which puzzles me because at

other times psychiatrists say they can fight

depression with ad's well ...)

(Hardly any doctor is willing to prescribe MAOI's in

Holland or even to study how to prescribe them; they

call this the job for specialists of which in Holland

there are a handfull (at most) of and they are very

busy (I know this because I tried to approach them (or

really: their secretary) to consult them for advice;

noone had time).

Because of my bad experiences with doctors in Holland

I am about to buy cabergoline abroad.

Does anyone know it's use has health hazards?

If I am not sure about doing this I don't want to take

risks.

Has anyone of you experience with cabergoline ?

Thank you in advance,

I wish you well,
