Guest guest
I was on Oxycodone 12-hour and Oxy-FAST after my TCS. At first I felt great. Within 2 weeks of being home, I was off the 12-hour Oxycodone as well as the muscle relaxer. But, when I tried to get off the Oxy-FAST, my body wouldn't let it go. I went to both of my PCPs asking for help. We tried a very slow wean, but I could only get the dose decreased by half. Two hours after I took the dose, my whole body would hurt and I would get very anxious. Then I tried a psych hospital because they had the only doc in the area who could prescribe a med to help with withdrawals. At first it felt helpful, but the psych ward was a nightmare and I couldn't eat or drink. I kept vomiting and having diarrhea. By the 3rd day, I was terribly dehydrated and my husband picked me up and took me to the ER where they rehydrated me and gave me something for nausea. When we got home, I quickly researched " Oxycodone Withdrawal " and read that it is not life threatening, but is nasty. I had muscle and bone pain, hot and cold flashes, fever, high anxiety and panic attacks, lots of vomiting, trouble sleeping, and for the 1st couple days I felt like I was losing my mind. It was a nightmare. As a result, I am terrified to try them again and was told by the psych doctors to put in my chart " Rapid Oxycodone Dependence " so they won't give it to me again. I also got off Xanax which I heard was very addicting. That took another couple weeks. Now, the only thing I take for pain is Tylenol or Excedrin and Clonazepam for sleep. I don't mean to scare anyone...just share my experience. There are others who had no problem getting off the meds. I learned that sometimes, the chemicals in meds can " incorporate " themselves into the body's chemistry and the body then thinks it is SUPPOSED to be there so it throws a fit to get it, hence the withdrawal symptoms. I had to just let it get out of my body. It wasn't easy, but I'm glad I have all that stuff out of my body. Take care!
