Guest guest
Well, it continues to be interesting. When I went to the doctor two weeks ago, there was still no growth on the bone and tissue biopsy. The infection specialist had me on Chloromycin and when he said that he did not see much change, he added Doxy(something). I asked him if it could possibly be gout. A friend of mine who works for a health food store said it looked like gout. He said that it could not be gout. I encouraged him to test for it and he reluctantly did. The next day, I got a phone message -- my uric acid was very elevated and they placed me on two types of gout medication. My finger has gone down twice in size -- so much that there are stretch marks where it was so swollen. No pain now. So ---- is it gout or the addition of the second antibiotic??? Guest guest
If your uremic acid was extremely high- then my vote is for gout. Must be your Doc has never seen your particular presentation of gout- or he wouldn't have been so reluctant to test for it. He'll be eating a plate of crow. Guest guest
Thank you! I know what is going to happen the next time I go to the doctor. They will say that they don't know what is clearing up my finger.....either the antibiotics or the gout medication! I still cannot bend it, but hope that will come in time. Guest guest
Recently I sent someone some gout medicine that worked really well- actually a better choice than most antibiotics for her systemic/infection inflammation and it covered 2 organisms( BACTERIA KILLER) commonly found in these problem sites. The NO GROWTH is a SHAM and your obviously not paying attention to what I was trying to inform you to have done- tell them not to discount anything the lab has discounted the only bacteria(coagulase negative staph) there calling it insignificant- yet IMO due to it's antibiotic profile is very very very very very very very very very very very very very significant in your INFECTIOUS OSTEOMYELITIS FINGER. The gout is a secondary IRRELEVANT FINDING if you want to stay on the merri go round of doctor visits your gout is important to them and you'll just be treating your gout for the rest of your life and ignore your osteomyelitis....The 2 antibiotics and the 2 gout medicines are all WORKING IN HARMONY IMO. Guest guest
Wow -- thanks for the really nice note. I have question my doctor on many things, including what have they been testing for, why no growth is showing etc. I have tried to pay attention to many things said on this list. However, on the other hand, SOME (not all) people seem to be really harsh. I can comfortable say that no one knows everything about infections, etc. No one on the list has seen a photo of my finger, etc. How do you know that I have an INFECTIOUS OSTEOMYELITIS FINGER -- you have not seen the x-rays, mris, blood work, biopsy (both tissue and bone) or photo of my finger. Are you a doctor, lab tech, or what? Guest guest
I had a similar experience when I first took the full inflammatory blockade dose of Olmesartan. Looking up BP meds I found that diuretics were associated with gout but not so much ARB's . My big toe was affected which is a classic symptom of Gout .No inflammation though , well I suppose there wouldn't be taking ARB's .Recently since taking Cimetidine I have what seems like gout again. One finger was affected , still no inflame , now it seems like other joints are affected , but in a sort of rotation ..my hip aches at the moment..anyway just thought I would report , jis case anyone has a good theory .. ... Are you taking ARB's? -----Original Message-----From: infections [mailto:infections ]On Behalf Of TolsonSent: 22 May 2006 13:49infections ; infections Subject: [infections] Update on my finger Well, it continues to be interesting. Guest guest
Very interesting. Good for you for being your own best advocate. Sure sounds like it could be the gout meds but who knows. Guest guest
Yes, still taking Benicar, down to 2 x a day at present. But it was bizarre when I first started it. I had the same kind of rotational stuff you experienced, severe pain in an area that would dissipate after a few days, then move onto another area. But the arches of my feet and big toes were probably hit the worst. Never got a clear explanation why it was happening. penny > > > I had a similar experience when I first took the full inflammatory > blockade dose of Olmesartan.
