Guest guest
In today's press , a possible cure for ME has been reported. Proff Montoya has used the drug valganciclovir with great effect .12 patients received the drug and report that they are 90% better. The news came from ME conference, awareness day last Friday .Dr Malcolm Hooper one of the speakers answered the question of psychological causes of ME with the comment that Its now clear that ME patients have "a disturbance" in their natural way of dealing with infection. Drugs such as valganciclovir may be allowing it to re-set itself Bit of good news there, but quite a few of us are 90% better , the remaining 10% is elusive ..Still it's good to know that a biological cause has powerful support .. Guest guest
Okay, wow. What is this drug? what does it do? And what do they mean by..." Its now clear that ME patients have "a disturbance" in their natural way of dealing with infection. Drugs such as valganciclovir may be allowing it to re-set itself ." I want to know exactly what they mean by this, because 90% improvement, if true, is HUGE, even if it's only 12 patients!! penny Jaep <Jaep@...> wrote: In today's press , a possible cure for ME has been reported. Guest guest
Okay, after seeing the article, it says one patient had 90% improvement. I thought you meant 90% of the sick were cured. Anyway, still interesting. Need to do more research. penny Jaep <Jaep@...> wrote: Here's the story , http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/health/healthmain.html?in_article_id=386443 & in_page_id=1774 -----Original Message-----From: infections [mailto:infections ]On Behalf Of JaepSent: 16 May 2006 18:49infections Subject: [infections] News on treating ME In today's press , a possible cure for ME has been reported. Guest guest
As far as I know, Dr Chias treatments all used IFN along with an antiviral. At least some interferons are active not only against viruses but also against MAC bacteria infection according to at least one trial (however, bear in mind that the alpha and beta IFNs are pretty distinct in activity from IFNg). Behan reviewed the early history of CFS treatment experiments at some length; I remember a metnion of antivirals but dont remember whether they were ever tried out as a sole treatment. Pop articles often mangle the science bigtime. I wouldnt be shocked if there were an interferon actually involved in this new tx as well as the antiviral, unmentioned by the writer. At least 2 of the 12 patients had a huge, massive response, so if in fact no interferon was used - just the antiviral - then this finding will be quite a kick in the pants for bacteria jocks such as yours truly, etc. If anyone finds out the score on this, pony up. And let me know if anyone finds out about any conference DVD on which this group might have revealed more details; I'd probably want to buy it and check it out. > Okay, after seeing the article, it says one patient had 90% improvement.
