Guest guest
Hi All! I just got a phone call that prompted me to write about this. The homone problems that often come with Chiari (some of us get high androgen levels...you can watch the TCI video on Hormonal problems) can cause a condition called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS. The importance of diagnosis with this condition is in it can cause pre-diabetes and high insulin levels as well as very high cholesterol levels regardless of a sensible diet. These can both obviously lead to very serious health concerns. The hallmark symptom of PCOS is being unable to loose weight and also gaining weight very quickly. Other symptoms can be irregular, infrequent or absent periods (prior to menopause), hair growth where women shouldn't have hair, hair loss on your head or receding hair line, significant loss of breast size (I gained 60 pounds in four months and went from a C-cup to an A-cup...makes no sense) and should be checked by an endocrinologist. My endocrinologist has a few chiarians that all have PCOS and she has helped all of us. I thought it was important to mention, as my blood sugar is climbing even on aggressive medications and we should all be aware of the end results of an underlying illness such as PCOS that often go undetected. Hope this helps someone Hugs,
