Whoops, I was thinking of Graves disease here, not Hashimotos. My bad.

Here's a good link to autoimmune thyroid disease (aitd)

http://www.suite101.com/lesson.cfm/19330/2899/4

Antibodies are definitely the hallmark of Hashi's. They're what

defines " hashimoto's thyroiditis " . " Itis " meaning inflammation.

Hashimoto's is most often accompanied by HYPOthyroidism, but

sometimes HYPERthyroid people have hashi's antibodies as well. And

Graves patients can also have hashi's antibodies. Graves patients

tend most often to be hyper, but can be hypo as well, or swing back

and forth.

If you break down all the different types of thyroid conditions, I

think the evidence is pretty strong that infection's involved in

most of them.

One of those articles even talks about thyroid cancer and fistulas

(like a worm hole) that allows infection to travel directly to the

thyroid. They say it's " rare " . Usually on the left side (don't know

why that is). I really don't think it's as rare as they say it is. I

think this is exactly what I've got going on (minus the cancer).

Here's Shomon's description of Hashimotos.

" Hashimoto's disease, sometimes known as Hashimoto's thyroiditis,

autoimmune thyroiditis, or chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, is an

autoimmune disease. In Hashimoto's, antibodies are reacting against

proteins in the thyroid, causing gradual destruction of the gland

itself, and its ability to produce the thyroid hormones the body

needs. "
