Guest guest
Amy, I've heard very good things about Mayo's lab in general. But otherwise Mayo docs are not popular in chronic illness land. I have no personal experience with them but have heard the same thing literally 100s of times on numerous chronic illness boards. Nothing but disappointment with Mayo docs. Sorry. I have no idea what the Clinic's position is on lyme, but I have heard that the lab itself is good when it comes to handling samples and testing for hard to find bugs like actinmyces, which must be handled carefully and rapidly before the organisms die. Most ordinary labs can't culture these organisms because of poor sample handling, but Mayo does. Regarding lyme testing, it's hard to say. According to their website http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/lyme-disease/DS00116/DSECTION=6 it looks like they're pretty standard regarding diagnostics and treatment, prescribing abx treatment of 14-28 days with doxycycline, etc. They perform followed by Western blot testing, and PCR for those who may have " chronic lyme " . Most Lyme patients seem to like labs like Immunosciences and Bowen for Lyme testing. Personally, I have reservations about their tests. penny > > > > > new ID doc uses YALE lyme lab. > > > > > _________________________________________________________________ > FREE pop-up blocking with the new MSN Toolbar – get it now! > http://toolbar.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200415ave/direct/01/ >

Personally, I have reservations about their tests. I don't know anything about Immunosciences. I think Bowen's lyme test is good for satisfying curiosity, but almost nobody is going to accept the test result, so I wouldn't bother with it. Maybe their coinfections tests are more accepted? I'd go with IGeneX or MDL for Lyme. - Kate
Guest guest
You're right, Kate. IGenX is the one people usually recommend. Immunosciences does the tests as well. I've heard of MDL but have no experience with them. penny > > > Most Lyme patients seem to like labs like Immunosciences and Bowen > > for Lyme testing.
