Guest guest
lol..HI Laurie! I am sorry you are sick. I am working working working. I got to hike up the PCT ( and no I did NOT get lost! lol). I went back out to Burney Falls and went on up, hiked to Grizzly Peak. Total miles about 45. It was very hot and most of it was out in the sun. I was going further but when the sun started to take it's toll I stopped at a good place and called for transport! lol BUT......I turned 50 on the trail! Wahoo! So now I need to keep going so I can turn 60 on the trail too! lololol JaneGet a sneak peek of the all-new AOL.com.
Guest guest
Yes I am, going to do the Lost Coast with my granddaughter and friend next month and hopefully finish another 35 mile hike this year. The Lost Coast is 26 miles. It is good for me to work hard. lolol I have people who filed extensions coming in to get their taxes done and quarterly stuff going out and my garden is booming. So far I have 44 quarts of pickles, 22 pints of green beans, 12 1/2 quarts of stewed tomatoes, and 13 pints of salsa. I also have frozen 1 gal of grape juice and am probably going to have at least 5 more...for making jelly later on.Whew! JaneGet a sneak peek of the all-new AOL.com. Guest guest
i would say that was a pretty good birthday! 45 miles, that's rather a wow to me because i have never done more than 20 miles and that was a very long time ago. i'm sorry to hear you are working so hard. do you have another hike scheduled? lauire > > lol..HI Laurie! Guest guest
Yes it is the same section. I was able to see where I lost the trail last year. There is one spot where there is an old logging mess and I went up the hill instead of around it. No problems this time! I love the mountains. I wish I had more time to just go out and walk till I am done. Ah well, this way I appreciate more what I do get to do. It was beautiful in spite of the heat. If you want to you can go to the trail journals and see some pictures. I will be posting them later today. The link is http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?trailname=5545 I had my BP Checked today and it is 113/74 with pulse at 63. Wow! not bad. And I come from a family where bp's are high. A lot of them take meds for it. Makes me feel really good. I am sorry you had to go in with heart issues. That is scary. I am glad you are back out. Those Sun Cherries sound good. My tomatoes are extremely prolific as you can tell. Cucumbers too. The habaneros are starting to produce now pretty well, so I will be making some good hot salsa soon. I made some but it is not as hot as normal, so I wrote "not so hot" on it. lol Take care Elaine and Laurie. Soak up sun and be well! JaneGet a sneak peek of the all-new AOL.com. Guest guest
Jane, shows how good waiting can be -- you have work now because your clients have waited and you will have wonderful food for a long time as your current produce waits for you in the freezer and cupboard. Who knew how good waiting can be. So you saw that section of the PCT covered in snow and now under hot sun -- it was the same section wasn't it? What a great way to enter into your 50s. Happy Birthday! This year I planted Sun Cherries. They are cherry tomatoes and boy are they wonderful. I had to plant them at a friend's because I don't have sun on my small patio. She let me do it reluctantly and now she just loves them. Laurie, I'm sorry you're sick. Actually, I'm hoping by now you're over it. I know that having a fever in the heat is worst than when it's cooler weather. So I hope it's over and you'll be hiking soon. On Wednesday I went to the ER due to trouble breathing. I have had heart problems so they kept me for tests. I got out just last night. I never expected them to keep me and I was put into a room with a TV that didn't work, with nothing else to occupy me. I'm so happy to feel the fresh air now that I'm out. I've been walking in a pool but not as often as I'd like. I find it too hard to walk on land and have trouble finding adequate shoes due to wide feet so the pool takes care of both problems. I'm so grateful to have access to one. Take care everyone. Have a wonderful weekend. Elaine WOW Jane, you go girl....sounds wonderful....this winter your family will be loving all the goodies your putting up now. Guest guest
i'm glad the ER trip wasnt worse than being bored! i'm not quite better, i've got the same throat problem again. now that i have insurance i'm calling an ear nose & throat specialist tomorrow morning! have you tried on the Men's Keen sandals yet? I tried them on again this summer and i found out the men's are definitely way wider than the womens. I couldnt find a single pair of keens women's that fit me this time, but several of the mens did. I didnt buy any though because I didn't find exactly what i wanted and my old sandals are still pretty good. although not as cushy any longer. i was blessed with airconditioning and mellow weather during most of my illness. turns out my grandmother caught it from my little boy a week ago last friday when we took her out and i only thought he had sniffle and she's been having a heck of a time getting over it. anyway, enough of that talk, a friend of mine is in town this week and hopefully i'll be good enough for a moderate hike. he's recovering from back surgery, so he's supposed to take it easy as well. i over did it yesterday, we went out ot dinner with friends and then made an attempt to check out the Ikea store. It was crazy busy but the grand opening prices were fantastic. that's about it here, i hope to wake up feeling great! laurie > > > > WOW Jane, you go girl....sounds wonderful....this winter your family > > will be loving all the goodies your putting up now. > > > > Re: Re: bored bored bored > > > > Yes I am, going to do the Lost Coast with my granddaughter and friend > > next month and hopefully finish another 35 mile hike this year. Guest guest
I will be starting my annual garlic consumption for the month of august to ward off the mosquitos. I have good success with eating raw garlic cloves and not getting bitten by mosquitos. We have west nile virus in my city, and august is the little monsters breeding month around here. > > > > Yes I am, going to do the Lost Coast with my granddaughter and > friend next > > month and hopefully finish another 35 mile hike this year. Guest guest
You probably don't have to worry about getting bit by anything else either, lol. > > > > > > Yes I am, going to do the Lost Coast with my granddaughter and > > friend next > > > month and hopefully finish another 35 mile hike this year. Guest guest
the west nile is taking a serious tole on the US. it's rather scarey. there's been a lot of damage to the birds as well. there was an article recently about how well garlic works, but it was a teaser to get you to tune in later, i never heard what the results were. i'm glad it's working good for you. i tend to get hives if I eat too much raw garlic for a supplement. laurie > > > > > > Yes I am, going to do the Lost Coast with my granddaughter and > > friend next > > > month and hopefully finish another 35 mile hike this year.
