Guest guest
I don't want to sound discouraging, but I am not doing very well right now. I had started buspar about 3 weeks ago, but it gave me a side effect called akathisia. I'm not sure if anyone is familiar with this, but in short it is like having restless leg centered in your torso, radiating through your body and mind, and driving you absolutely insane. I can honestly say it was terrifying. It's wearing off since stopping, I can only hope it wears off all the way. It also gave me tremors in my hands, which are wearing off, but not all the way. Strangely, i tolerated buspar for about 3 months prior to this trial, so something must've changed after quitting it the first time. So now I am only taking fish oil and a multivitamin, and things are pretty dead. My penis is often cold because it gets so little blood and at times I have a dreadfully unpleasant feeling more or less centered in my genitals which I can only describe as the opposite of pleasure, but not necessarily pain, just a cold, sickly feeling. I have no response to visual stimuli and touching is not pleasurable either. The only thing I do have is very faint response to my own fantasies, but nothing like actually being 'turned on'. At this point I feel very far away from the person I once was, sexually, emotionally, and even personality wise. I guess my next step will be to try either dostinex, requip, or possibly wellbutrin, although wb's side effects scare me. I'm sorry to sound less than hopeful at the moment, but it has been rough lately. We'll find something eventually...I hope others are doing better. > > I was just curious how some members are doing right now and what their > future plans are and how much they feel they have recovered. it be > great if dont mind sharing. >
Guest guest
I'm doing OK. My sexual function really hasn't improved at all since discontinuing Celexa in Jan. 2004. However it is not " static " , meaning there are slight peaks and valleys. I tend to have some desire for sex in the morning when I wake up. So that's a good sign. I've tried many drugs for brief periods including Wellbutrin and Dostinex to no avail. I've also tried HCG. Back in April or May, I decided it would be best to lay off drugs for a while and use a small amount of supplements including fish oil and vit. B. A lot of my other symptoms have improved significantly such as brain fog and aches and pains in my genital area. I even had prostatitis for a while due to a hormone imbalance. This has subsided completely. Current plans - still searching for a solution to the sexual dysfunction. I'm thinking seriously about trying Emsam once it's released due to it's ability to increase neurotransmitter levels. Not sure if it will work but it's worth a shot. I'd also like to get on a trial of PT-141 through my doctor. I have a good feeling this will resolve itself in time. Just need to hold on a bit longer. I'm currently on Requip, but I don't think I'll stay on it much longer. I was on a business trip for three days and forgot to take my pills with me. So unintentionally I was off Requip for three days. I'm sure my previous posts reveal, that I wasn't happy with the way I felt while on Requip. Short moments of returning sexuality in the middle of complete numbness, that's how things were. I came back home last night, feeling somewhat different. I went to bed and realized a change occured once again. I had sex with my wife and suddenly the message from downstairs got through. I had my emotions back, together with authentic sexual excitement. At the moment of orgasm I held my wife tight, really close to me and felt love. It was such an incredible feeling that it made me cry. I woke up this morning and the feeling was still there. I " did it " twice again this morning with my wife, and felt pleasure. My mood was better than in a looooong time as I rushed to work this morning. Now when I have a good moment like this morning, things are not 100% same as before SSRI's. But honestly I am having the best feeling so far, after losing my sexuality. The sexual excitement and plesure I felt last nigh and this morning are the most genuine feelings of returning sexuality I've had since the catastrophy. Once again I'm cautiously optimistic. But what caused this sudden change? I'm really confused. Just like before, the feeling emerges when I'm taking a short break from a dopamine agonist. Something clicks, but what exactly is it???!!! Right now I'm keeping my fingers crossed, hoping that I don't go back to numbness. Biker
Guest guest
Tim, the things you describe are something I'm very familiar with. The unpleasant feeling in the genital area is something that has disappeared with dopamine agonists in my case. Your situation sounds exactly like mine a couple of months ago. I'd suggest you try a dopamine agonist, either Dostinex or Requip. Take the daily dosage for a week or two and then take a short brake. I have a feeling this gives a great stimulation to the dopamine chain that is a sleep in our brain. Do not give up hope, that's what I almost did when I was just as numb as you are right now. It seems that dopamine agonists are giving a wake-up call to my dopamine system. There are strong fluctuations, but the mood-killing constant numbness and discomfort are now gone. Perhaps a complete recovery is only a couple of months away? Biker > So now I am only taking fish oil and a multivitamin, and things are pretty dead. Guest guest
Biker, that is very interesting. It's also interesting that Chris Wells seemed to recover completely after *stopping* dostinex. I wonder if the dopamine agonist dosages are too high? or maybe the agonists somehow refresh the receptors so that they respond much better to their natural ligand (dopamine) when they are stopped. Another possibility is that they alter the intracellular events that happen after the ligand binds to the receptor and make that process more efficient. But regardless, once again I'm very happy and encouraged by your progress. Guest guest
Vornan, this is interesting, to say the least. I think you should try the Dostinex (or have you started allready) and then take a sudden brake. It seems like doing this does something effctive, no idea what it is though. Like you said, perhaps a dopamine agonist awakens the receptors somehow, and then the dopamine in the brain starts working right once again... Whatever the mechanism is, we are on to something here. Guest guest
I wonder if cycling on and off the agonsits is the way to go, based on your experience. Say: two weeks on, one week off, then repeat the cycle. Maybe this is the best way to refresh the dopaminergic system? I guess this way the brain cannot get used to the agonist. -- In SSRIsex , " bikercompany " <bikercompany@y...> wrote: > > Tim, > > the things you describe are something I'm very familiar with. Guest guest
Biker, I've been meaning to try dostinex all week. Every day I say I'm gonna start and then I chicken out! To be honest, I'm afraid that unlike you I will not tolerate it as well and will finish up with worse insomnia or something. But I guess I will just have to bite the bullet and go for it. Probably tomorrow! V > > > > Biker, that is very interesting. It's also interesting that Chris > > Wells seemed to recover completely after *stopping* dostinex. Guest guest
Vornan, I wouldn't worry. I know the sides vary a lot individually, but in my opinion dopamine agonists are a walk in the park compared to ssri's. Start with a low dose and see what happens. If and when you get the first sign of a change, you'll be glad you took the bull by the horns. Feeling the genuine thing after a long time of dysfunction is amazing. Good luck! Guest guest
This is great Biker. I know the feeling to be able to feel aftering going through these side effect from SSRI. I agree with Vornan, and it seems like SSRI has done something to the Dopamin receptor and these drugs, Dostinex Requit, and in my case Wellbutrin, has help to reset/activate some of these neurans. My Plan. I have been off Wellbutrin for more than couple of weeks now. I am feeling fine with no sign of depression or anxiety. Still has some issue with DW. It is hard to separate the effect of the drugs (good or bad) from relationship issue. Certainly my DW does not make these days (or perhaps I better say months/years) easy for me. I have to battle depression, side effect of SSRI and on top of that her. I am sharing this, because I don't know how much of negative result I get is because of relationship issue and how much of it because of wrong medication or remedy. I am currently taking B6 B Complex E and St.. I like to add more supplement for ED and PE. Been thinking about SAM-E or DHEA or even Ogoplex. Any body had tried these before and expreince some good esult? (even small). -Steve <zoloftscrwd4life@y...> wrote:>> I was just curious how some members are doing right now and what their > future plans are and how much they feel they have recovered. Guest guest
Biker, Vornan, The effects of starting and stopping dopaminergenics sounds like the most promising thing so far. I think I didn't pay enough attention to a somewhat similar experience with Selegiline. Over thanksgiving while traveling I forgot to take the Selegiline for two days. On the second day, while sitting in the airplane I had a rush of desire unlike anything I've experienced in a decade. It came out of nowhere. I wasn't thinking about anything erotic (since this damage from Prozac, I've had to force myself to think about something erotic to become the least aroused, and as some others have mentioned here before, staying aroused requires intense concentration and is interrupted by the least and most mundane distraction). Anyway, on the airplane I could have easily been aroused to the point of orgasm and could not distract myself from the arousal. The feeling lasted for hours and when I was finally able to act on it I had a fully normal building arousal and orgasm (solo, alas). The whole thing went away the next day and I was back to status quo: almost numb genitals, no libido. But I also had resumed the Selegiline. I had attributed this episode to a 'vacation effect' and not the missed Selegiline. In the past, what little variability I experienced in sexual responsiveness was always when I was on vacation with little stress. However this time was definitely different because I had a return of long buried libido and not just increased sensation. I stopped the Selegiline early in January because I upped the dose and then couldn't sleep for days and scared myself. I did not notice any return of libido after stopping it intentionally this time though. Velden > > > > Biker, that is very interesting. I take mirapex on and off for sexual enhancement, but the dizziness is kind of intesne on it so I'm not taking it regularly. I find that it combines well with a supplement called phenibut, it's a gaba based drug from russia that helps me relax and seems to enhance sex. However, if I don't take it with mirapex I get even more delayed ejaculation which is already a problem. Girls get upset at me about it and sometimes wonder what they do wrong. I feel very emasculated by all of this. It's very frustrating, and if it doesn't clear up soon I might get impulsive and take like 400mg of testosterone a week with proviron just so I can have a normal life. Guest guest
Hello,I'm a new member and I'm facing the same problems.I had a wonderful sexual life before the drug.During the drug it was impossible to orgasm and things have not change off Efexor. What astonish me the most is the way Efexor has altered my fantasies.I have read a report from another woman who is experiencing the same.I had a private collection of fantasies but when I try to remember them they have fade away. Also cannot focus on a fantasy and start thinking about other things. And now I found out that males are also having problems in this same area. You are not very responsive when you look at beautiful breasts and perhaps fantasies are not very vivid like it used to be. It is know the important role that fantasies has in healthy sexual life.I'm concerned about that because it seems to me that these drugs has done something with our brains that is quite different form usual sexual problems that people who has not been on these drugs experience. It seems to me that the approach to heal it all is not the same as used to those who have "normal" sexual problems.Increase the dopamine? Not sure if it will work. Yoimbine does not work even for the "normal" problems for they cause a vasodilatation and erection that has not an erotic origin.Off course I am very concerned about the insensitiveness of my clit.Well it looks like they wanted to decrease the global population and created a drug that turns sexual life impossible. My God! A good campaign about birth control would be much more effective! s wrote: I am in the Air Force and hate my job with a passion. I am forcing my self to like it cause it's hard to re-class. Guest guest
OK, I started on a small dose of dostinex on Friday and will build up to 1-2 mg per week. So far I haven't noticed anything except an increase in orgasm intensity. I'm still on 50 mg T-cyp every 4 days. Right now orgasms are almost normal, but my erections are kinda weak. Strange because a few months ago it was the other way round. In a way it's good that things are in a state of flux because once more I think it points to gene expression rtaher than structural. Guest guest
Hi vornan. Im about to ask for prescription from my doctor either for dostinex or requip. But What is T-cyp?, is it something like pill to raise testosterone? What should I ask for prescription? Which one should I try first dostinex or requip? I also want to raise my testosterone if possible through pills instead of shots, which ever is more affordable. > > > > > > Biker, > > > > > > I've been meaning to try dostinex all week. Guest guest
Fascinating that your libido came back like that. I think the fact that you can have those feelings again after such a long time is very encouraging. And I think it means for sure that there is no way that you have " brain damage " in the traditional sense. Vornan > > > > > > Biker, that is very interesting. Guest guest
I've had similar fleeting moments where it seemed like i felt 'normal'. One in particular came on the 1 year anniversary of my mother's death a few weeks ago. Obviously, I was sad and weeping a bit while writing an email to my family about the significance of the day. For a few moments there, I felt like all of my symptoms washed away, even my somatic anxiety that has been with me for years now. It's hard to describe, but I felt like if someone had been there to caress me, it would've felt comforting and pleasurable in a way that it hasn't ever since I took my first pill of ssri. I felt a sort of warmth and calm within me, but all the while I was weeping over the memory of my mother and the state of my life and mind since her sickness and death. I hope it doesn't sound perverse, but my thoughts turned to sex after I noticed this weird change in equilibrium, and I felt an emotional depth to my fantasy that I had almost forgotten I used to feel all the time. What this seemed to say to me is that my problem in particular cannot just be described as lack of libido. Whatever system normally interacts with my sensory perception to make things pleasurable or significant has been altered somehow. It was great to feel things for that brief moment again, but also very sad to know that I had almost forgotten those feelings, and to know that they would fade almost as quickly as they came back. > > > > > > > > Biker, that is very interesting. Guest guest
" 50 mg of T-cyp " = Fifty milligrams of testosterone cypionate, an injectable form of testosterone. > > > > > > > > Biker, > > > > > > > > I've been meaning to try dostinex all week. Guest guest
T-cyp is testosterone cypionate. If you don't want to do shots, the creams (e.g. androgel) are the next best alternative. There aren't really any reliable or safe pills for raising testosterone. I don't know which is better between dostinex and requip. I'm trying dostinex first, and if that doesn't work I'll try requip. Guest guest
Heh, I was ranting there out of frustration, 400 may be a little much. I still have a suspicion that testosterone levels above the normal range may be helpful in giving a desensitized brain/nervous system a wakeup call. I'd rememberd an old thread on bb.com. A guy had run a cycle of trenbolone and had done all the proper pct, hormone levels came back fine. One of the guys suggested he run 400-500mg of testosterone for 10 weeks. The guy actually did it and it worked, but that's obviously beyond typical theraputic dosing. I think that the mechanism by which tren would damage libido is a little different, however, something to do with prolactin. How are your levels at with 50mg every 4 days, btw? > > Do you think taking that much testosterone would help? > > > > > > > > I was just curious how some members are doing right now and what > their > > > future plans are and how much they feel they have recovered. it > be > > > great if dont mind sharing. > > > > > > > I've had bad insomnia ever since trying buspar from july to > september, > > I'm trying whatever I can to take care of that.
