Guest guest
I don't think they were available for last year; it was a pilot year for TAKS M. TAKS ALT should have scores. Adina Subject: Did you school provide you TAKS M & /or A test scores? To: texas-autism-advocacy Date: Thursday, January 8, 2009, 5:18 PM Hi all: Not sure if this should be done as a poll or not, however I'm interested to find out which schools and/or SD provided their child's test scores for the TAKS M and/or TAKS Alt. I understand one SD did provide the results despite standards not established last school year. My ARD Committee (HISD) refused to give me my son's results, claimed all scores weren't even available. Who else got this same story? Also wondering if anyone else from HISD got their child's test scores. Thanks Sincerely, Vivian
Guest guest
Hi Vivian, As you know Klein ISD did provide my son's scores to us. I was told by our ARD committee that the field tests were given during the fall of '07. TEA's website also shows that they were given Oct. '07. The tests that were taken during the spring were the official tests. They didn't expect the standards to be established until this past August. The standards ended up being published this past September. We received the results of the TAKS-M about 3 weeks after each test. They were printed out by TEA on the official forms just like the regular TAKS and SDAA forms. They showed each TEKS objective and the number correct, total score, and the scale. Just nothing was noted for the standard or commended score. I have since withdrawn my son from the district, but now trying to get him back in. When I spoke with the case manager at the new school, one of the first things she asked me were about his scores on the TAKS-M last year. Guest guest
We are in Montgomery ISD, north of Houston. My son took the TAKS M (I think - it was essentially the same as the other kids took, but more white space and a couple less questions - he also got to take it in a quiet room with no other children - only the monitor) last year, 3rd grade. We were told his scores. 90 math and 94 reading (commended!!). I don't know why they would't have them. The main reason he took the modified TAKS is due to attention issues. He was able to wiggle and squiggle, sit on the floor, hum, take a walk, or whatever he needed to focus. I know that he would not have done this well in a room full of other kids rustling their papers and where he had to be quiet and still. Hope this helps, > > > > Hi all: > Not sure if this should be done as a poll or not, however I'm interested to find out which schools and/or SD provided their child's test scores for the TAKS M and/or TAKS Alt. Guest guest
I had no problem getting my son's TAKS M test scores. This should be part of the open records act? These are school records on your child go to the head of special education and complain and if that doesn't work go to the superintendent. Skip the principal often they take a hands off approach to SPED and defer to admin anyway. I was told that TAKS ALT was only to be used for a small minority of kids with no skills in reading or math the test is very basic you can see past tests on the TEA website. TAKS M is still very hard to get practice tests for. I only have a few sample questions. We are following the TAKS guidelines for what to teach in math and language arts and trying to modify it like we think it will be modified. My son is at a huge disadvantage because we could have been taking this year to learn to take tests and to be prepared emotionally and cognitively for what types of questions will be asked and how we are expected to respond.
