Guest guest
With what I've dealt with in doctors, I shouldn't be shocked, but I am. I have absolutely no sympathy for a doctor who would dump a patient like that. There is no excuse! The idea that it's tough for them doesn't wash. After all, they chose to become doctors and neurologists, and TCS patients (and others) go with the territory. Any doctor like that should lose his or her license. Doctors complaining that they don't make enough money or are overworked and use that as an excuse for not properly treating patients get as much sympathy from me as teachers who mistreat students or don't teach - absolutely none. They have no right to make their problems the patients' or students'. -- Heidi Moulton wrote: Also, after all my bragging about my great neurologist, she has dumped me. When I called and asked why, I was told she doesn't specialize in tethered cords and she felt I could get better follow up care somewhere else. I replied that no one in this area (esp. neuro's) specializes in tethered cord. There aren't enough patients in this state to support that. Then I was told that she is no longer following up with anyone that needs long term care, including MS patients and Alzheimer's patients. (Wouldn't you think that we would be her "bread and butter" for her practice?) She is only doing testing that other doctors order. That has left me with the dilemma, do I try to find another neuro for follow up care or do I ask my physiatrist to help me with the things she did for me? My question to everyone is: Do you have someone that manages your case? (Decides where you need to go for specific problems/decline.) Or do you decide what doctors you need to see for which problems you have? I've never had anyone that "manages" my care or rather coordinates it and I'm not sure I need someone, although it would be nice to call someone and say this or that is occurring who do I see for it and not have to guess at it myself. This is my nightmare come true....being dumped by a doctor. I know it's got to be difficult for them...there's no cure; I'm not going to get better and more than likely more problems will arise as time goes on, but to dumped because of this??? Ugh...I'm just starting my future with this condition, how many more doctors will feel overwhelmed with this and just throw their hands up? As pointed out to me by a good friend who's been dealing with this all her life, I'm fortunate to have found doctors so willing to help me up to this point. I think those that have been dealing with this all their life have a tendency to be overlooked by the medical community more-so than those of us recently dx'ed and symptomatic. I know if you compared the treatment I've received over the last four years to what she's received, there is a huge gap. And it's not that I went whining or looking for these doctors/tests/appts. I just spoke to one doctor about what was happening and in came the referrals to find out why and what's happening. I digress...sorry... Anywho...who manages your care? Anyone? What have you done when you've been dumped by a doctor (or am I the only one that has had this happen?) Does anyone get headaches from just this condition? Guest guest
I am just incredible thank you! lolol! I recently was invited to, interviewed, and accepted into the Metropolitan Who's Who for "outstanding achievement in (my) occupation, industry or profession". Little bragging going on! I did an 18 mile 2-day hike with a friend of mine a couple weeks ago and we had a blast. Nine miles a day was a lot for her but she made it! Got my garden in, getting ready for the fair, trip to WA in June, hiking in July, Aug, and Sept. Marathon in Oct. Lots to keep me busy! How are you? JaneSee what's free at AOL.com. Guest guest
I gained all the weight back and then some. I'm back on the excercise wagon, or off it I suppose... I've managed to excercise nearly every day for the last 2 weeks and i've given up on the meal replacement shakes until I get to GNC to try something else. It's really hot today, so i'm hiding inside with the AC after doing my little bit of excercise. I have a cold so i felt pretty crappy while excercising today,, so i'm doing afew chores and sitting around now. I hope everyone else is good. laurie > > Ok I am fat and tired of deleting the spam sent to the group!! Guest guest
We seem to have had the coolest May in memory with plenty of time to work outside. The US highway 90 bridge between my town (Long Beach) and my son's town (Bay St. Louis) has been rebuilt after being completely destroyed and was finished ON TIME (glory be!) so now I can drive over and use their swimming pool without using so much precious gasoline and time. All the recovery plantings we have been doing are taking off and things are looking a little more normal. Casinos and hotels are rebuilding and there are more jobs all the time. All in all, much to be thankful for. On a personal note, my black Lab, Robin got toxoplasmosis in February resulting in heart damage necessitating a permanent heart pacemaker insertion at a nearby veterinary school. They said his prognosis was poor for any great length of life even with the pacer, but now he is looking wonderful and is full of life and energy. He and I and my other two Labs, Jeb and Radar look forward to many long walks on the beaches and in the pine woods. Life is good. Hurricane season starts in two more days. Hope it is as quiet as last year. Sorry about the drainage problems in New Orleans, Gerard. W Update Ok I am fat and tired of deleting the spam sent to the group!! LOL Give me something real to do!! Guest guest
, I can relate to your problem with spam. I manage 3 yahoo groups and an email group at work. I have an advantage in that my groups are restricted to posting by members only. I just have to try to screen out spammers when they apply for group memberships. Its been kind of a mild summer so far in my part of the Northland. It warmed up early, but it hasn't been real hot. Could have gotten the garden in earlier, but my brain is still stuck on Memorial Day weekend. I thought I was in pretty good shape, but I wore myself out. I could hardly get out of bed on Tuesday morning. My pants have been getting a little snug, so I stepped on the scale and I'm up a little. I need to get the trend moving in the other direction again, so I have to get back to planning what I eat. I've had success with that method before, but its slow - no quick weight loss. No more ad hoc eating. I've been able to increase my daily exercise level over the past couple of years by walking to work. I'm fortunate I have that opportunity. Weight control is a hard thing in our society. Too much bad food available and not enough exercise in our daily routine. People like to socialize with food too, which makes it more difficult to plan. The other problem is that I enjoy eating. I just need to get it back in my head that more quantity doesn't necessarily mean more enjoyment. I can really shovel it in sometimes :-) I wish you all success in your struggles. Its nice to hear about the good things that are happening to people, so send your updates even when they don't seem like much. Guest guest
Memorial Day did me in too, . Too much of the wrong foods. Now, new resolve and keeping bad things out of the house.
