Laurie! So nice to see you! lol

It is NOT warm here! We have been having cold nights here since Aug which is extremely unusual. (No CA)

When I went up to ville for the marathon last weekend there was quite a lot of snow on the ground from about 4000 feet up. They said this is the earliest snowfall in decades. October is Healthy Shasta month down here and usually it is quite warm while all the activities go on and it is NOT this year. But we are busy doing the activities anyway.

take care and keep healthy!

Well i finally found a job and i'm returning to work.

My husband has agreed to cook with me on saturdays and sundays and

cook for the week! what a deal.

i've also been putting my veggies in my spaghetti sauce when i make

spaghetti and that's been helping both me and my son.

i also did pretty good with the soy as taco meat.

I found a good brand of tortillas that are whole grain and taste OK.

cant recall the name right now.

My new job should be more active than the last, so hopefully i wont be

warding off the afternoon sleepies and munchies like last time.

my husband and I will be closer to being on the same schedule but I

will get home earlier than him because he has overtime. The bummer

with this is that i am now in charge of all the cooking and chores all

during the week. I really hate being responsible for it all. The good

news is, that I should have enough money to pay my neighbor to come

clean my bathrooms for me once every week or 2 weeks and that will

help a lot.

Also, how many of you have worked with a personal trainer? I think i

have the option at the work gym, i'm going to find out, or I can see

soemone at my gym on the weekends. Is it really practical to only

see someone 1 time a week? I will make time to work out during the

week at work, but will only make it to the regular gym on the

weekends. I need to get an entire strength training plan into

action. I have a few spots in my back that are really weak and they

are undermining my over all strength.

So is every where but the Northwest having a warm fall?

So sorry about your cat Elaine! I feel for you! I am allergic to cats but love them dearly. We have always had to have at least one and it seems like the best ones live the shortest lives for some reason or other.See what's new at AOL.com and Make AOL Your Homepage.

TY Elaine! It was hard work but I learned a lot and will do better next year. I was not able to get done to get an official time but that is ok...

And yes I will do it again...I have already printed my entry form for next year! lol

I learned I need to do more down hill training at fast paces, and wear warmer clothes including gloves.

I also need to take my own snacks cuz most of theirs have peanuts and I cannot eat them. Bananas are good but get old! lol

Congratulations on the new job, Laurie. That's great. It's wonderful you have a gym at work.

That's so convenient.

We have had a few warm days here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Last week I went into SF and it was even warm by the ocean.

Some museums have one free day a month and I try to take advantage of that. The day I went into the city was lovely. Actually, it was hard to go inside on such a day but I went to a tower observation room in the de Young and it was wonderful to see so much of the city.

In between these warm days, we get one or two cold ones. It changes so fast.

I had a wonderful cat, about 2-3 years old, healthy, athletic and strong. Nothing was out of the ordinary when I left home early one morning and when I returned about an hour later, I saw her walk by and she seemed normal but I don't know for sure because it was still dark and I only saw her silhouette.

Seconds later I heard noise and went to see what was happening and found her laying on the bathroom floor and she died after a few minutes.

Actually, I guess she died right away but it took a while for her body to shut down. I still feel the shock of it. She wasn't old or sick or ate anything she hadn't had access to for the seven months she had lived with me.

I guess the noise I heard was her having convulsions but I don't really know. It happened so fast.

I miss her so much. She had been surrendered to the pound because her previous owner had died. She went through a few other owners before finding herself at the pound (not a place to send an animal for many reasons.

No-kill shelters or rescue groups are a better choice). The pound decided she was dangerous and not adoptable so they wanted to kill her.

I was asked to take her because a person who works with a cat rescue group could see she was a good cat. She didn't want to be forced to do anything, including being pushed into or yanked from a cage and that's what they did to her without showing any compassion for her anxieties.

Who knows what she had been subject to in her young life to make her act this way. They only saw her worst behavior and wouldn't work with her.

In my home she was well behaved, liked to be petted and could be cajoled to do almost anything i needed her to. Certainly not a dangerous cat.

She was also calming down and becoming more trusting each day. I loved her and miss her.

Take care.

Congratulations on your marathon, Jane. Tell us all about it. Was it harder than you expected or did you breeze through it. Do you think you'll do another one? It's marvelous that you're able to do it. I always admired your wisdom and long hikes and now you're a marathoner!

Take care.

Poor kitty. How wonderful though that you gave it some good care

before it passed away. My kitty got an abcess and has been sick, the

other cat i have now got one too but his was near the surface and

drained without him getting sick.

my poor cat is starting to gag on the antibiotics and he's making

little gaggy noises the minute he smells the stuff now.

seeing the museums in san fran sounds fantastic. i've been there

twice as an adult. i want to go again.

i feel very lucky to have a gym at work. all the employees pay a

membership that covers the costs and i think the business picks up the

lease cost on the space.

ok gotta coral the kid.

Congratulations!

You might want to check out Dave McGovern's Marathon Walking book. If you google

him,

you can buy it at his web site.

Things I've seen people eat (that do not contain nuts) during marathons include

Teddy

Grahams and Cheerios. I'm a big fan of Shot Blocks, by Clif.

If you walked, you might get some advice from WALK! Magazine. We have training

schedules and articles about marathoning quite a bit. I've done two marathons

and just

don't have the time to train for that distance. I prefer half marathons now.

Good luck or next year!
