Guest guest
I have dosed my dog daily for painful hips, both orally and topically. You could tell she really loved the topical application as it was very warming. Putting it in milk made it easier for her to consume. I tried chicken broth but it was not as good. Recently read that milk helps take some of the odor out of it. I did this with my vets blessing. In fact initially he had me do a SQ drip when we could not find a vein to drip it IV. I kept her on this for just a short time as she died soon after I discovered this use of DMSO. It does make them drink a lot of water and pee alot. Some info says it increases urinary out put up to five fold. > <<I have given many of my dog's DMSO for injury and dysplasia>> > > Would you please elaborate a bit on this? Guest guest
DMSO would help the pain and inflammation of dysplasia, but would not help the re-establishment of cartilage, which glucosamine and chondroitin do.
Guest guest
Great info Garnet and . :-) , where was the shot given? In the elbow fat? With the great results would you be inclined to give DMSO subQ for hip dysplasia as well? If so, can you please describe how (how much, where). Garnet, can you describe how the subQ drip was prepared (I assume it was administered in the scruff, but what was the DMSO/saline ratio). I have read that DMSO used topically on greyhounds helps with running injuries better than steroid shots (pain relief only--no regenerative properties as seen with GC). I just wonder, those in the group who have used DMSO topically on their dogs, how do you work around the hair issue? (I have extremely hairy dogs <BG>.) Can any other pet owners supply personal experiences of DMSO use with their pets (esp. dogs). Thanks in advance! The first week he was much better, 70% at least and within 4 weeks you could not tell he was favoring that leg unless you knew it. I continued for two more months and stopped. He doesn't limp at all now, and that has been 4 years ago..
