FEAT-Houston January 2009 Meeting Date: January 8, 2009 Time: 7:00–9:00 pm Location: Crosspoint Church Houston 4601 Bellaire Blvd Bellaire, TX 77401 Speaker: Olive, PhD, BCBA Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) Topic: Strategies for the Picky Eater Do you serve a child who will only eat white foods or soft foods or crunchy foods or only five different foods? This meeting is for you! Dr. Olive will present an overview of the successful CARD Austin Feeding Clinic. To date, 20 children have been served and all 20 children have learned to eat between 35 and 60 new foods in just five to seven days of therapy. Dr. Olive will also present strategies for addressing feeding difficulties for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders enabling both parents and teachers to begin addressing feeding difficulties sooner rather than later. Dr. Olive has received more than $500,000 in federal funding to conduct research on assessment and intervention for challenging behavior. She is the author of 25 book chapters and peer-reviewed publications and currently serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Early Intervention, Topics in Early Childhood Special Education, Exceptional Children, and Young Exceptional Children. She is also a frequent guest reviewer for the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders. Her research interests include communication intervention, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), functional communication training (FCT), assessment and treatment of challenging behavior, behavioral outcomes of biomedical interventions, and training others to implement Applied Behavior Analysis. Prior to joining the CARD staff, Dr. Olive served on faculty at the University of Nevada, Reno and the University of Texas at Austin.
