Word! Cept the theoretic scope of what he said should probably be

extended to include not only relapse, but also treatment failure.

Do you remember posting that news article about using a protein to

wake up dormant Mtb? Long time ago. You dont still have that do you?

I think that article must have been about something called

resuscitation factor, which is sort of a bacterial hormone. I just

want to make sure its not about something else. I am hugely

interested in this whole area now.

Tho they are colossally active in changing Mtb from a non-replicating

to a replicating phenotype, I'm not sure gram positive bacterias

resuscitation factors have much therapy value. Whether they could be

versatile treatments probably hinges on whether they diffuse across

biomembranes, and only a few proteins/peptides do so.

However, resuscitation factors of gram negatives are not proteins,

but small molecules, according to one reference. Therefore, even if

they happen to be the sort of small molecules that dont cross

biomembranes well, its not unlikely that one can fix that right up by

tacking a big hydrophobic group onto one corner of the molecule.
