Guest guest
Slowly, but surely...It’s all coming together! Keep up the good work! Shon K! From: Soundsensitivity [mailto:Soundsensitivity ] On Behalf Of anthro_pop Sent: Monday, December 18, 2006 5:08 PM To: Soundsensitivity Subject: Interesting Coincidence This last week I rec'd a call from an east coast physician, a pscyhiatrist, who had recently seen a pediatric patient who had all the symptoms of 4S, and whose parent had brought in copies of this site and some of my other ones, along to the visit. Interestingly, the MD has a daughter herself who shows all the signs of 4S and who had been diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder as a result, although the major symptoms appeared to be 4 S related! It would make a good novel plot! So as you can imagine, she was doubly interested, first in the young person in front of her and secondly, the implications for her own child. So she just called me up! And was surprised, I think, to find me answering the phone, hello? and ready to spend an hour talking. I instantly recognized the value of that conversation, as I have been praying and wishing for such a medical provider to come along, to work with me and my research friend, a clinical psychologist PhD and audiologist, to begin the task of compiling information into a publishable form and to help identify the proper venues to the MDs, the clinical folks, and so on, while the popular distribution method is quietly carrying on with ideas for Reader's Digest, People Magazine, and other ideas. Things are getting interesting! Marsha , MS
Guest guest
That is wonderful!! It is truly amazing how you have advanced the search for the cause and cure of 4s in such a huge leap because of the internet and your website! I know many who say the internet is evil---but in this and many other cases it is a huge blessing. Thanks for speeding this search up so much and all the commitment you have towards it. Guest guest
I would respectfully submit, though that the conditions are not mutually exclusive. My kid has textbook symptoms of both. I tend to think that he wouldn't have 4S, or at lest the condition would be less severe, if he didn't have OCD. One of his obsessive thoughts that causes his trichotillomania is the sounds that he hears.mbdadThis last week I rec'd a call from an east coast physician, a pscyhiatrist, who had recently seen a pediatric patient who had all the symptoms of 4S, and whose parent had brought in copies of this site and some of my other ones, along to the visit.Interestingly, the MD has a daughter herself who shows all the signs of 4S and who had been diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder as a result, although the major symptoms appeared to be 4 S related! It would make a good novel plot!So as you can imagine, she was doubly interested, first in the young person in front of her and secondly, the implications for her own child. Guest guest
MBDAD: I agree. The fact is that the area of the brain that is strongly suspected to be involved with OCD behaviors and habits is.....part of the auditory pathway, too! No surprise there. Connected, yes. OCD and 4 S. But the degree of the strength of that relationship is highly variable: from hardly any connection at all, to a very strong one. Marsha J. PS I have a couple three patients with 4 S, OCD, and Trichotillamania.....no surprise there, either. > > > This last week I rec'd a call from an east coast physician, a > > pscyhiatrist, who had recently seen a pediatric patient who had all > > the symptoms of 4S, and whose parent had brought in copies of this > > site and some of my other ones, along to the visit. > > > > Interestingly, the MD has a daughter herself who shows all the signs > > of 4S and who had been diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder > > as a result, although the major symptoms appeared to be 4 S related! > > > > It would make a good novel plot! > > > > So as you can imagine, she was doubly interested, first in the young > > person in front of her and secondly, the implications for her own > > child. Guest guest
> > In the relationship of OCD and 4S -- which do you > think would be likely to develop first? > In typical 4 S, I would suggest the auditory component emerges initially. Most of the patients I have personally interviewed or who have corresponded with me, indicate the auditory symptoms were first to emerge. Many of these people do not appear to have any OCD other than the careful arranging of life to avoid the " trigger " sounds, which is not really OCD, is it?
