Guest guest
Which kind of sinus surgery does he want to do? How much scillia will be damaged? What is causing the swelling and why is it getting worse? I don't know where these guys get their 90% success rate. Ask him what he considers " success " . Does he culture the organisms for follow-up care? Can you talk to some of his " success stories " who had the same symptoms you do? (they'd have to call you, or give the doc permission for you to call them due to patient privacy laws). Where are you located? There's a good ENT in San Diego who does these things correctly, but she's the exception, not the rule. penny > > Hello, > I'd posted on the subject of turbinate injections a while ago. Guest guest
, Apparently the concha bullosa is an anatomical defect of the middle turbinate. It must be removed and the middle turbinate resected. What is very important is the ent have enough experience not to remove too much of the turbinate. This will cause way too much air to go into your sinuses at once and will be very bothersome. I recall it being called something like, empty head syndrome or something to that effect. Get a very good surgeon. > > > > > > Hello, > > > I'd posted on the subject of turbinate injections > > a while ago. I > > had > > > the 3 shots, but they didn't do very much. Guest guest
, Jersey is pretty close to NY,NY. I would go see Dr. Tichnor. www.sinuses.com I'm sure he would recommend one of the best surgeons available too. Maybe he would be a good fifth opinion as well. And his opinion may differ from the ent's. I think these are some good ones: www.docdavid.com Professor Dr. Heinz Stammberger: Graz University, Austria and s Hopkins University, Baltimore (He is a major figure in the development of FESS, and he trained W. Kennedy, M.D.) W. Kennedy, M.D.: Professor and Chairman of Otolaryngology University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Philadelphia. He introduced FESS to the United States in 1985. Guest guest
Well, if you came to see our local ENT (the only good one I know of, and I've visited MANY) she'd first culture your sinuses to see what's causing the infection and inflammation. She'd then treat you with the appropriate antibiotics based on the bugs' sensitivies in the culture dish. Then she'd see if the infection had cleared and the inflammation had reduced. She'd see surgery as a last resort, or only necessary if there truly WAS a defect. If you've got inflammation, there's a reason for it. Perhaps you have some kind of abnormality, but I find it very suspicious how many people seem to be dx'd with " abnormalities " rather than infection and the subsequent and natural inflammatory response (swelling). I bet not one of those ENTs has discussed the infection itself, right? They're blaming the infection on the inflammation (swelling), not the other way around, right? Like I said, I'd talk to a whole lot of people who've had surgery and do a lot of research before letting him drill in my head, and destroy all that fragile scilia, which is the one thing in your sinuses designed to move stuff out of there. Just keep this in mind. The head of the ENT department at UCSD told me that he's " just a plumber " . I'm not comfortable with a " plumber " drilling that close to my brain while completely ignoring the infection itself. penny p.s. It's important to know if you have any other illness symptoms which could indicate that your sinus problem is bigger than you think. > > > > > > Hello, > > > I'd posted on the subject of turbinate injections > > a while ago.
