Guest guest
If you read the product packaging it may take up to 5 days before Miralax begins to work.If your child is that impacted it will take awhile for it to work as well. Sometimes they have to do a "clean out" before starting this medication.Starting and then stopping, or starting this med and then starting other treatments or diets may also cause problems.Best thing when dealing with constiapation is to try one method for at the very least 14 days then move onto the next option.I totally understand when a child is in pain that that seems like an awfully long time to wait but this suggestion is made AFTER the child is unblocked or deimpacted. Then you try one method like diet and fiber, then minerals/supplements, the drugs. Each point taking at least 14 days to run then try the next method.Otherwise you're not giving one perhaps good method a good enough chance to work. Plus it takes the body time to adjust. It's hard on little ones to go between things so quickly!,I don’t know if it is me you’re referring to or not but that is what happened with my son. He was having normal movements but last week he had an abnormal amount of blood in his stool so we went to the ER. An exam showed no signs of fisher or hemorrhoids so they referred us to his GI in Boston (which he had because he is lactose intolerant). They did x-rays and found his colon was totally full and said it probably had been for a while and we were not noticing because the “overflow” was causing him to have daily BM’s. They prescribed Miralax and he is now on day 4, I have not noticed a difference in frequency at all so far. I am not planning on keeping him on it past a week. Since he is on the spectrum and has a limited range of things he can eat, I am putting him back on Fiber Choice. I am wondering if regular magnesium helps or does it have to be citrate? I am looking for ideas on alternatives that is why I am here.(my son is 13)Charlotte
