Hello, Can anyone in the group help guide me to someone who can help me teach

my son to swallow pills, he is 9 years old, has autism and seizure disorder. He

needs to take seizure meds and also supplements. He is taking liquids and we

crush pills but give him liquids but he is now refusing the way we give it to

him. He has to take so many, so it would be easier to get him to swallow the

pills. Please, any help would be great. I am in San .

You might try a cup that helps swallow the pills until he

learns. I found these through a web search and don’t have personal

experience with them.

Try C.A.R.D. (The Center for Autism Research and Development) Call their 1-800 number. They have centers everywhere and have pill swallowing lessons for our kiddos.Subject: HelpTo: Texas-Autism-Advocacy Date: Thursday, January 15, 2009, 8:51 AM

I see someone already mentioned CARD, which is great but takes time and money. I was going to also suggest that you "practice" with something else, like Skittles (they are GFCF but not necessarily color safe) or Enjoy Life chocolate chips. This helps the child get over the fear/sensory issue of swallowing something whole like that. I have to mention that I have read this tip but have not tried it myself yet!

Thanks,

Sandy H.
