Guest guest
Hi all. I have a 3 year old girl coming to see me on Monday - I wondered if anyone could help me get my mind thinking in the right direction....her mother has told me that the little girl gets a fleeting abdominal cramp which causes her to bend double and passes in a few seconds, but recurrs 30-40 times a day! It started 3 months ago and coincided with starting preschool. She is apparently a happy, thriving child with a good appetite, normal stools and a healthy, varied vegetarian diet. Her health is otherwise good. She has been tested for various things at hospital, including kidney and GI problems, but nothing significant has been found. I'm a little stumped I'm afraid and will examine the child when I see her on Monday. i am thinking of antispasmodics and stomachics, but am not sure what the cause would be. Could it be due to a developing large intestine? The sypmtoms seem to have no other associations. I know there is a small baby in the house as well, although I'm not sure how long ago he was born - is there a chance it's a stress/anxiety thing? I'm afraid I don't have much experience of treating children for anything more than gastric upset and whooping cough etc... Any thoughts would be most welcome. Thanks, Isobel
