Guest guest
Jill Very good, well done, I just think people should do exactly that 'look on more than one occasion' and take the time to get it right for the patient, because in the case of babesia treatment it''s long and iffy. Actually a couple of slides made an hour apart on a bad day may be the way to go.Ask if a pin prick like diabetes would be good enough, not to have to need constant blood draws. If I had my way I would get a couple of thing's checked which are simple for pathologists-is your common staph beta haemolytic,it shouldn't be, do you have pseudonomads in your sinuses, these are both WOW moment's for pathologists. This is the type of request which isn't against the grain if yyou pointed to the pics on the start page and told her they are bacteria,- they are programmed to believe our blood is sterile, so it's hard, work within there knowledge. The problem with this ilness is the red blood cells- so I wonder what she thinks about yours?Did they show dramatic change on a bad day?Are there many damaged cells and are there many spiky cells, are some interesting observations they can make. They should possably compare to healthy people's cells to see how your's don't stack up even. This is the toxic damage that equates to thing's ain't hunky dory. > My HMO doctor called me today and was actually very nice. Guest guest
Kathy: Looks like we are talking about cuts to two different grants by the Governor. The House and Senate passed an appropriation last June of $10.30million I believe so TAP and The Arc argue that TAP has been cut bt$5.3 million. I am away from my files but I believe this is close. Re: Question for Tony FYI - the cut to Illinois Autism Training and Technical Assistance Project (IATTAP - ISBE Grant) was $350,000 not $100,000 - a direct line item cut out of ISBE's budget after ISBE had requested an increase for IATTAP for the first time in 5 years to assist with the two year waiting list for our Focus Family Support program which works directly with families with children with ASD and their team for 6-18 months. Guest guest
Another great question! We have reserved the Hall of Flags which is next to the Capitol for a possible rally on Nov 13 when legislators will be in Springfield. Our plans are not fixed at this time. If we do this it will be around the budget cuts. I have to have agreement with our coalition partners. We are also planing a rally for April, 2009 with several disability organizations. Rally's can be effective tools if they are part of a larger campaign. We are trying to do this with the " Blueprint " and holding townhall meetings around the state so this is a natural addition. Our most effective strategy however, and my chapters do this very well, is meeting locally with legislators on the budget cuts. Our focus is now on the Senate because the House has restored some of the major cuts to current services/supports. This is really our most effective advocacy tool, meeting in the local office spending time with the legislator, educating them on our issues and asking for specific support, in this case restoration of the cuts to disability services and human services. This strategy is working quite well. Later today I will share with my chapters action steps to consider in their local areas which will also include media events. Back to why many do not make the trip to the Capitol. I believe it is because of their local meetings and relationships many of our chapters with their legislators. Some of our chapters feel " Rally's " are not effective. I don't feel this is correct but that is the reason for some to not participate in the Springfield events. I guess not everyone agrees with everything we promote but I like rally's as part of a larger campaign. I am also into building long-term relationships with legislators and I appreciate some of the approaches ADAPT takes but most of their successes are short-term and many legislators will not work with them. Laurie, it is time to show our anger but how we express it is more important. I hear you loud and clear. Central Daylight Time, jeruefamily@... writes: Hi Tony, All the discussion about ADAPT kind of begs the question, why not the Arc of IL? Before this week, I didn't realize how many chapters the Arc has throughout the state -- that's a lot of chapters! Since that's the case, why is it that when I've attended Lobby Days in Springfield the attendance there is, well, underwhelming? I don't know about anyone else, but if someone had organized rallys at the Center in Chicago (where I understand the Governor spends most of his time), I'd have been happy to make some signs and bring to 'march' and make some noise!! I'm beyond being so nice and polite all the time. It doesn't seem that that approach has gotten us very far, at least not in the 19 years I've been part of the disability community here in Illinois. So my question to you, Tony, is this: Has the Arc any plans to organize rallys protesting the budget cuts (or any other pressing issues).
