Guest guest
http://www.jmii.org/content/abstracts/v34n4p265.php THis is obviously 5 billion times more relevant than some screwed up mutant mouse that starts spewing antinuclear antibodies as soon as you look it in the eye. THis certainly seems to suggest that pathogenic autoreactivity exists in some of these mothers, tho it may not be inconceivable that the effects could be microbe-mediated - a baby might have a better hand of cards than the mother and might be able to clear a microbe once transplacental influx ceased? I dont know if the rate of transplacental microbial migration is large enough to support this model. And the paper claims the association with the particular maternal autoAb is strong. Its interesting that most mothers with SLE have babies without neonatal lupus syndrome, and that the majority of NLS babies have clinically well mothers.
