Hello,

I am trying to put together a care plan for my fifteen year old aspie son, I am

unable to find a social skills group for him, so that he can interact with

others, in a guided environment. If any one is aware of a active group,

and is able to accept a new member, or is about to start another group, please

forward me the information, I would be totally grateful. Being fifteen he’s

not being accepted for the adult groups, and to old for the younger ones.

I have him registered with the MHMRA, but we have to wait for two years to even

receive any aid, unless I pay, and they told me that paying wouldn’t

qualify me for anything with the economy the way it is right now, they simply

do not have any thing in the budget?

My other

reason for seeking out a group of aspie’s is the chance to share my

concerns for my son’s future prospects, another aspie parent would

understand the concerns of my son’s vulnerability and the prospect of him

being taken advantage of. Autism and PPD are on the list of impairments

that would qualify him for social security disability payments, and Texas has

the statute that would ensure that the child support payments I receive for him

would continue for the rest of his life, and not terminate when he graduates

High School, as it would normally do for other children. Plus he is at

the age for drivers’ education; do I allow him or hold of on his getting

licensed? Is there anything that I am overlooking?

People can be more specific in their referrals to groups if you say

what general area of the state you are in.

In the meantime, there is an online group with a real active

email list at http://www.grasp.org .

It’s not a social skills group, but I’ve seen people correct

(gently) each other’s posting errors.
