Guest guest
Hi friends, I can't seem to get my computer to print after the last post so have to start another. I too have noticed the bad brain swelling and stimulation symptoms with high arginine foods, especially protein powder, etc. But there are so many healthy ones, I investigated and believe that Lysine is the balancer of Arginine (lysine is the most antiviral amino and arginine the most proviral) Also Gaba and Glutimate are a pair to balance with gaba being the most alming and glutamate the most stimulating. So I keep Lysine powder around and take some with every high arginine food and it does really help my brain stay alot calmer. I think that the amino acid pool is a balance--every protein has some arginine. Also, Dr. K and others write about high carb diets being very proinflammatory as Insulin is the most inflammatory hormone and that is bad for lyme so I guess starvation is the only noninflammatory treatment !! ha ha! So I have struck a balance and since I am very hypoglycemic, I feel better on the higher, but not high protein side, while trying to eliminate ammonia with ornithine and lysine to counteract the arginine. It seems to help this way. You can google a list of high lysine and arginine foods. Some common ones for arginine besides the nuts and seeds are: wheat, rice, peas, beans, lentils, chocolate (cuz its a bean--sad face--though I eat alittle and add lysine) etc. But I try to stay aware and not overdue! Its so great to get on here and see people talking on the same issues I am thinking on too Take care! Debbie
