Guest guest
I am giving her approx. 8 ounces per day. I do not dilute it. She loves it. I am hoping its effects stay with her. When she was about 2 we gave her prunes and prune juice but the effects eventually wore off. For now, I'm enjoying the success. As far as salicylates sensitivity... Paige was born 3 1/2 months early. She experiences the issues, on a daily basis, that can also be associated with salicylates sensitivity. It's impossible to narrow down what is causing any issue with Paige. I was hoping some of her problems would have subsided when I removed the Miralax. I was reaching for any help. But, we have not seen any change in her. The only thing different, which her psychologist noticed, was her tics seem to be happening less. But, when she is stressed, they come out again. I really can't attribute it to the Miralax since so much else is going on in her little body. On 3/28/07, Hudson <jhud2@... > wrote: , How much are giving daily? Are you diluting? She has been constipated since she was two weeks old & thats when we were told to give her suppositories. After battling the constipation for over a year and trying every fruit, Fiberall, juice, warm baths etc, nothing seemed to help, so the Dr. put her on this. The Dr. said it was no problem being on it this long, she actually has patients who have taken it longer. My daughter has had a year long issue of waking an hour after going to bed crying & then throwing up (this happened 2-3 times per week). Her Dr. always seems puzzled when I mentioned this and says it sounds " behavioral " . I think now that this could be related to the Glycolax. Agianst the Dr.'s recommendation, I have cut the doage to 1.5 oz in the am and thats all. She tends to have a bowel movement once every two days this way. Her stools have gotten softer over the past year, as they have always been small rock hard pebbles or a large stool thats as dry as saw dust. She struggled so much in the past that she once passed out & also has bled and made small tears. I hate that my child suffers like this! I really want to " cold turkey " this drug out of her life but I'm afraid she won't go at all. I got desperate yesterday and found some stuff on line called Fruit-Eze, an all natural product and so I ordered it and am going to give it a try. Has anyone heard/used this? Any success or can anyone offer any other natural alternatives? Guest guest
HI, I just started my 3 yr. old daughter on Fruiteze and it is truly a miracle for us. It tastes good too! Our order came in Monday, and she now asks for it on toast for breakfast in the morning. I just told her it was jelly. She has a habit of withholding for 5-6 days at times, and she actually has gone already since Monday, which is an improvement...the texture was much better too, softer like playdoh, and she didn't even complain when she went, just told me when she was done and we changed her. (We aren't pushing the potty, since this is where we feel the problem started...she has gone in the toilet, but then was constipated and has a fear of going, in tears when she would go) We were on Miralax for a few weeks, but I took her off and am so glad I did, she still wasn't going when on it, and when she was, it was so runny and smelly...worse than usual. I'd say you are on the right track with Fruiteze...it has been great for us! > > Hi, I'm new to the group and have a lot of anxiety over my 3 1/2 year > old daughter being on Glycolax for the past TWO TEARS! Guest guest
I give her 8 oz, all at once. She is 8 years old and approx. 51 pounds. She usually goes within an hour of having the juice. Also, what has really worked for us is making her sit on the toilet for 10 minutes, 3 x per day. We've tried this (sitting on the toilet) in the past and it never worked. I think she was just too resistant to sitting still for so long without any success (going #2), and I guess I didn't blame her. Now that she is on the juice she is more willing to sit, even if she doesn't " go " each time. There are days where she is going twice. We also bought her a timer so she feels a little more in control. We got a digital one, not the kind that you turn and it constantly ticks. She has severe sensory issues (has had them since birth so it's not miralax related) and the ticking would drive her up a wall. We also use a sticker chart system (we have used this method for over 2 years). She gets a sticker for each time she goes. When she accumulates 5 stickers then she either gets $1 or gets to pick a toy from my treasure box. Now that she is getting older, she always picks the money! lol We started this system so we could track how much she was going. We use a standard wall calender and we bring it to the GI every time we go. Now that she is on the juice and going so often, we may have to revise the money system. Before, if she earned $3 in one month, it was a miracle. Now she easily earns $1 per week. There are some weeks where she has earned $2 in one week! -- www.thepreemieexperiment.blogspot.commom to Paige, 8 years old, former 25.5 week preemie and the biggest Josh Groban fan you will ever meet www.caringbridge.org/il/paige mom to Tyler-born 5/1/06 at 35.4 weekswww.caringbridge.org/visit/babytyler Could I ask how much of the PlumSmart your giving her a day? Guest guest
Have they done any tests on your daughter to find out why she has this problem?? My son suffered for nearly 3 1/2 years with his Gastro. just putting him on MOM in massive doses before we saw a different Gastro who tested him for Hirschsprung's Disease. Although, he did not expect it to be Hirschsprungs, it was. (Short-segment, he had like 5-6 cm of his colon removed.) I'm not saying that is your daughters problem but I wonder why she started out being constipated at 2 weeks old... > > Hi, I'm new to the group and have a lot of anxiety over my 3 1/2 year > old daughter being on Glycolax for the past TWO TEARS! Guest guest
Thats a great question...one I've asked my pediatrician many times. No tests have ever been done. We have continually been told that unfortunately, they see this "normal" pattern in many children and they eventually outgrow it. Guest guest
One of the first indications of Hirschsprung is passing meconium after 2 or 3 days following birth. Babies should pass it within the first 24 hours if I recall. Here's a really good article on it. http://www.aafp.org/afp/20061015/1319.html I learned something new here -- " The disease is caused by the failure of ganglion cells to migrate cephalocaudally through the neural crest during weeks four to 12 of gestation " I had 4 ultrasounds during that time of gestation...... > > > > Hi, I'm new to the group and have a lot of anxiety over my 3 1/2 > year > > old daughter being on Glycolax for the past TWO TEARS!
