Guest guest
Be sure and switch your toothbrushes. Strep can live on them & re-infect you after treatment. Patrice From: infections [mailto:infections ] On Behalf Of Barb Peck Sent: Monday, August 29, 2005 7:37 PM To: infections Subject: [infections] strep A My husband and I both have strep A. We're now pretty sure he caught it from someone on his deep sea fishing trip, and gave it to me. I went to my Dr. today.. and he's funny - he looked at my throat and said " Hello!.. That's nasty! That's strep! " ..And my ears are pretty full of fluid (but I'm not near as bad as yesterday) He wrote a scrip for both of us for Amoxi. He said we'd be non-infectious after 48 hrs on antibiotics. I've never had strep throat before. He couldn't do the official test for Strep (to document it) because I had already started us both on antibiotics yesterday after I made my best guess as to what this was. ( Strep A can affect the heart and kidneys and hubby was already 10 days untreated.) So we're both doing 80mg/kg for 5 days then 40mg/kg for 5 days.. and he said if a sore throat ( & swollen glands) comes back within 6 months to come back. So. No Lyme relapse (yet). Guest guest
Barb Do some cultures and use penicillin, amoxacillin is a bad second choice to penicillin for streps. My doctor and I had this same discussion it's like they use amoxacillins in doctors offices but this drug ain't used in real infections, because it's possably not as capable of wipping out infections completely. > My husband and I both have strep A. > We're now pretty sure he caught it from someone on his deep sea > fishing trip, and gave it to me. > > I went to my Dr. today.. and he's funny - he looked at my throat and > said " Hello!.. Guest guest
I mentioned that to Dr. A - Whether to use Penicillin or Amoxi. I know that penicillin alone can create some nasty variants pretty quickly when it's used alone. (and oral isn't as good as IV) That's why the decision was made for the high dose Amoxi (80mg/Kg - AKA dead bugs don't morph or mutate and I already know we can both tolerate higher doses than that). Hope this was the right decision. Guest guest
Barb I was just sharing my doctors thoughts as far as eradication as opposed to relief went. He was comfortable that the outcome using penicillin as opposed to using the amoxy was THE DIFFERENCE between getting over something as opposed to keeping things going.I also find in real medicine amoxacillin is a poor performer that doesn't have big wraps in real therapy circles. > > > My husband and I both have strep A. > > > We're now pretty sure he caught it from someone on his deep sea > > > fishing trip, and gave it to me. > > > > > > I went to my Dr. today.. and he's funny - he looked at my > > throat and > > > said " Hello!.. Guest guest
OUCH! Strep throat hurts. I used to get it yearly (or occassionally twice yearly) before my current PCP suggested downing gobs of cayenne pepper-laced tomato sauce at the first sign of a sore throat (indeed, not a single episode in the 8 years since). At any rate, I AM THRILLED for you that it is not a relapse. Get well soon, ~DM > My husband and I both have strep A. > We're now pretty sure he caught it from someone on his deep sea > fishing trip, and gave it to me. > > I went to my Dr. today.. and he's funny - he looked at my throat and > said " Hello!.. Guest guest
Here's an interesting aside as far as symptoms- A major Lyme symptom for me was pain at the right ocipital bone then down back of my neck on the right side, and in the front of the right side of the neck - a burning itching swollen sort of feeling - Although the acute symptoms of strep are about 85% gone (sore throat plugged ears) This neck thing is in high gear today.. So how come? Any ideas? Guest guest
Interesting. My friend also SWEARS by cayenne pepper for a sore throat. Last time she was here she filled a bunch of capsules for us, because both my girls and I were catching a cold, and my youngest had a sore throat. But the Tagament worked for us, so I've got a bunch of cayenne capsules sitting here. penny I used to get it yearly (or occassionally twice yearly) before > my current PCP suggested downing gobs of cayenne pepper-laced tomato sauce at the first sign of a sore throat (indeed, not a single episode in the 8 years since). Guest guest
Barb The throat in autoimmune ilnesses is GROSSLY INFECTED and even though you think pumping in the amoxacillin is high enough it's still WAY OFF THE MARK as to what is needed and going on.Also I feel comfy that the strep A may not be the correct call. There's a strong possability- but without that little knowledge your fighting with the wrong drug often. > > > My husband and I both have strep A. > > > We're now pretty sure he caught it from someone on his deep sea > > > fishing trip, and gave it to me. > > > > > > I went to my Dr. today.. and he's funny - he looked at my > throat and > > > said " Hello!.. Guest guest
I had a long list of overt symptoms which pointed to chronic inflammation (including pathology reports) and I had several overt symptoms pointing to infection. I think that if I had chosen the wrong drugs over the course of my Lyme treatment I would not have acheived the results I did. As far as this throat thing goes...If I hadn't decided to self medicate before I went to the Dr... we all would know for sure whether this is strep or not ( symptoms and picture of throat on hubby and I fit the decription to a T). But I didn't have the test - so yes- we don't know for sure.. But hubby has risen from the dead in 3 days on Amoxi (80mg/Kg) - and has gone to work today, and 3 days of high dose Amoxi has lessened both our symptoms about 80% - my fever's gone and throat feels normal. This indicates to me the dose and drug choice was correct... What would you suggest instead? Guest guest
Barb For strep throat the penicillin VK is the best option, I'm sort of guessing that penicillin is a better distributor thru the body.Actually my cousin gets no benefit at all from a box of amoxacillin about 20 tabs and alway's asks for the shots which bring him back to life immediately. > > > > > My husband and I both have strep A. > > > > > We're now pretty sure he caught it from someone on his deep > > sea > > > > > fishing trip, and gave it to me. > > > > > > > > > > I went to my Dr. today.. and he's funny - he looked at my > > > throat and > > > > > said " Hello!..
