Tony, if I decide to try a porcelain crown on that tooth, I want to

premedicate just to be safe, because he will be drilling a little bit

below the gumline an idea I don't like. At this point I put off doing

anything as I have a bit of a flu the last 5 days. So its scheduled

for 2 weeks hence. I may have him work on another tooth instead which

isn't in as dire trouble though I don't think he'll like that idea. In

any case, people premedicate with amoxicillin, do you think that's

sufficient. 4 (2000 mg) before and 2 (1000 mg) after. Or what would

you think would be sufficient simply to lessen any bacteremia during

the procedure?

TIA.

My last appointment with my doctor I grilled him on exactly this

topic. I alway's did well with amoxacillin yet I could never get

completely over the infection wheras with penicillin I think you've

got a better drug- basically it's capable of distributing thru the

tissue the extra mm .-He also mentions that his preffered drug for

this same reason is penicllin he hates giving amoxacillin and only

does so when he gets the 'patient knows best'patient and wants the

amoxacillin over the penicillin.I realise your doing the medically

approved thing because this approach is in a lot of the literature.

I went off amoxacillin because it doesn't really cut it in hospitals

they don't do IV amoxacillin nor do they do IV augmentin- which is

available- so it mustn't have the desired outcome to be an infection

eradicating drug possably having many relapses early in the piece so

they opted to only go the penicillin derivatives route in hospital

systems..
