Guest guest
Interesting. This is similar to how Steve recovered, except he only took wellbutrin for a month or two. Steve, how are you doing BTW? Vornan > > saw this on dr bob recently: > > i'm sorry to hear that you are one of those with 'permanent' sexual side effect from > SSRI. Guest guest
Amazingly, the guy posted a follow up saying he had to go off wellbutrin because of anxiety and now he's back on ssris with all of the sexual dysfunction again. I told him about my and our situation, but it seemingly fell on deaf ears. Right now I am debating between trying wellbutrin and emsam. What do you guys think? > > > > saw this on dr bob recently: > > > > i'm sorry to hear that you are one of those with 'permanent' > sexual side effect from > > SSRI. Guest guest
Wellbutrin worked great for me in half dosage a day like I mention long time ago. I would say it worked much better that requip, at least for me (I havent explored dosages on requip, maybe I need to cut the requip in half like wellbutrin). but someone also cautioned about reuptake inhibitors, so it scared me and I decided not to take them. The fact that the guy on dr bob site, didnt check to see if he could be ok without wellbutrin afterwards shows possiblity that the libido going numb after stopping it. But Im curious that it could help if taking for like month or two and stopping to see what happen. Im also icthing to try wellbutrin again in very low dosages. > > > > > > saw this on dr bob recently: > > > > > > i'm sorry to hear that you are one of those with 'permanent' > > sexual side effect from > > > SSRI. Guest guest
Personally, I would go with Emsam. In my case I've had no insomnia or anxiety since stopping Celexa. Three years on Celexa has made me immune to " pressure " situations for the most part. I can't remember the last time I really got nervous about something. I'm actually hoping Emsam can bring back the potential for those emotions, as I merely want to feel normal again. I don't know of anyone here or elsewhere that has tried a " pure " MAOI to reverse these side effects. I do know of people that have jumped directly from an SSRI to an MAOI and saw sexual function return. But it's impossible to tell if they fall into our category of " persistent " side effects after stopping, because there was no " buffer " period in between. Guest guest
This cholesterol issue is starting to bother me. All we need is another persistent side effect... Velden - you mentioned that you had somewhat high cholesterol. Do you know if that existed prior to your prozac use? Steve and both have high cholesterol that was apparently caused by the SSRI. If I remember correctly Luther's came in at around 170 last year, which is great. Anybody else have any data? Guest guest
I don't remember what my cholestoral was prior to SSRIs, but now I am motivated to look into my records. It's been pretty stable at a marginally high 200 to 230 in the decade since stopping SSRIs. I have genetic loading for cholestoral problems, but have been told not to worry for now because my 'good cholesterol' counterbalances this at about 80 something and triglicerides are very low-- below 50. However I am in suspense at the moment. I had my cholesterol tested this Monday and am awaiting the results. My concern is that the six months of testosterone will raise bad choleterol and lower the good. We will see. I will very reluctantly stop the testosterone if that is the case. Guest guest
between wellbutrin and Selegiline, which one would be more safer in the long run ? and why wait for Emsam when Selegiline is already available ? and can anyone explain how Selegiline works, I know it has something to do with MAO but I clueless what MAO is and how it works and why there is MAO warning on most prescription drug warnings. sorry for all the questions, I really dont get the concept of MAO-A, B things. Guest guest
I wonder if ssris interfere with the conversion of cholesterol into steroids, maybe by reducing the amount/effectiveness of the enzyme that does the first step (can't remember exactly which one). Maybe there is some way to test for this?... > > This cholesterol issue is starting to bother me. Guest guest
My cholesterol has always been directly related to my weight. I've been tested several times before, during, and after SSRI treatment and I've always tested between 170 and 191. I tested at 191 when my weight was at it's highest of 235 (I'm 6 ft. BTW), and now that I'm down to 212, I tend to test in the 170s. What I'm getting at is perhaps the high cholesterol readings are a byproduct of the weight gain associated with SSRI " treatment " (if you can call it that). Now I could be wrong - maybe there are some folks here that are in great shape but still get high readings. But I'd be curious to know. If there are, then that's definitely a problem. Guest guest
i had my cholesterol tested a year ago and it was 196. i think that is high for a 22 year old thin physically active female. i had been on SSRIs for over a year at the time > > This cholesterol issue is starting to bother me. Guest guest
I don't have a family history of Seizure. Dr. said, I need to come off of it. We tried to go down to 1/2 dose, but emotionally I became a wreck, and we were going to on a trip, so on my own I went up on full dose. No Seizure, just one time. No Epilepsy condition. No after-effect of the seizure, just a bump on my head. :-) I laugh about it now, but my wife was really scare I lost my conscious in the middle of the night. you had a seizure!!!!!!!!!!! and the doc continued to prescribe it to you?????????? do you have a familiar history of seizures or any type of epilepsy condition? im just asking because I worry about seizures due to my eating disorder background; especially in that I am still engaging in disordered eating habits =(. what were the after-effects of the seizure?thank you, laura
Guest guest
That sound normal to me. You also need to look at HDL/LDL. My HDL is around 60, so total colasterol/HDL is below average. I would say, you cholasterol may not have changed from SSRI. Or if it had changed, it may be due to secondary effect, like diet and low metabolism. i had my cholesterol tested a year ago and it was 196. i think that is high for a 22 year old thin physically active female. i had been on SSRIs for over a year at the time
Guest guest
I am 5-11 and 150lb. After SSRI, I was about 160~165. Try to eat less to control my weight and cholesterol. Went on Wellbutrin and my activity went up, and lost 10lb. My cholesterol did not go down with my weight. And went up, since my HDL went up. My cholesterol has always been directly related to my weight. I've been tested several times before, during, and after SSRI treatment and I've always tested between 170 and 191. Guest guest
Steve, how do you know it was a seizure? Is it also possible you could have fainted? Low blood pressure or something? > > > > you had a seizure!!!!!!!!!!! and the doc continued to prescribe it > > to you?????????? do you have a familiar history of seizures or any > > type of epilepsy condition? im just asking because I worry about > > seizures due to my eating disorder background; especially in that I > > am still engaging in disordered eating habits =(. > > > > what were the after-effects of the seizure? > > > > thank you, > > laura > > >
Guest guest
I'm also 5'11 " , but my weight varies a lot depending on my activity level. In 1998 - 99, my cholesterol was excellent - around 160 at a weight of about 170 lbs. I was doing a lot of running and cardio. Right after I started celexa in October '01 my weight was around the same, but my chol came in at 204. I was quite surprised but not too worried about it. That was the last cholesterol test I had. Right now I weigh 196 because I'm doing much more weight training instead of cardio. I've been at this weight before I took celexa, but I do feel like it slowed my metabolism significantly. I'm almost afraid to check my chol, but I suppose I'll have to take a look at it. Vornan > > > > > > My cholesterol has always been directly related to my weight. Guest guest
I would be shocked if an active guy like yourself checked in at much more than 200. It would be cool to do a chart of everyone's height, weight, and cholesterol levels. Just to see if we can draw any conclusions. Guest guest
First, I really doubted it was a seizure. But, if you account for other little side effect, sweating bowel movement, lost of conscious, panic attack, ... most probably it was. No one could be for sure. I never had fainted before. Blood pressure is fine, 130/70. Dr. had no doubt it was seizure. Steve, how do you know it was a seizure? Is it also possible you could have fainted? Low blood pressure or something? Guest guest
i know i was surprised. just looking it up.. my HDL was 46 which is kind of low. at the time, my diet was really healthy, i was physically active, fast metabolism.. but there are confounding factors. a)eating disorder history.. b)parents both on statins i just remember being very surprised as my diet was very low in fat. i need to get tested again. >_< > > > > > > i had my cholesterol tested a year ago and it was 196. i think > that > > > is high for a 22 year old thin physically active female. i had > been > > > on SSRIs for over a year at the time > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
this reminds me of the time when I blacked out on the floor while I was on zoloft. I was having stomach pain for something I ate and I was going to the kitchen to get some pain reiliver and I passed out hit the floor which I never experience during my life time.
