, can we please let's keep political opinions off the forum?

If you hate for whatever reason, that's your right and

choice, but it's not really the issue here.

I guess if the red shoes fit he should where them. :-) Hey WWII has been over for 60 years and there are still nazis around. It just seems that nowadays most of them are using a crescent moon as their symbol instead of a swastika.

of course. Listen, I'm not saying that the pharmaceutical industry isn't guilty of over-marketing these meds. They are. But it's ultimately the doctors who are prescribing them. Besides, drug company marketing reps and salesmen don't take the Hippocratic oath. The doctors are the one's who have supposedly sworn to "do no harm." Now I know there are good doctors out there. Particularly surgeons and the like. But the typical GP leaves a lot to be desired. I don't know what they're teaching them in medical school but it's pretty clear that empathy 101 isn't a degree requirement.

The drug companies get a lot of bad press. Much of it well deserved. But we should keep in mind that there are a lot of medications that are keeping people alive and improving their quality of life. My father's Parkinson's meds have made a huge difference in his ability to function. And let's not forget that there are a lot of horrible diseases that our grandparents' generation had to face that aren't around any more. In large part do to the "evil" pharmaceutical industry. I doubt that a style "documentary" would tell that side of the story.

I know this isn't a political site, but is all about politics. I don't know, maybe it's because I'm a veteran, or maybe it's because I saw 9/11 happen live and in person, but the guy really pisses me off. In my opinion he's an America hating piece of garbage. And that's the last thing I'll say on the topic. Except this...screw him and the exhausted horse he rode in on! Now, back to dopamine receptors...

Pretend whatever you want...

> You have shown where you are coming from, and lets live it at that.

I don't know where it is that you presume to know I'm "coming from"? But I'll tell you where I come from...Newark, N.J.

As I stated in my previous post, "The drug companies get a lot of bad press. Much of it well deserved." Apparently, you missed this statement. Yes, there was a time when drug companies didn't advertise on TV. There was a time when lawyers weren't allowed to advertise on TV. There was a time when people didn't sue Mc's for making them obese. Clearly, times have changed. Is there an unsavory relationship between the pharmaceutical industry and the FDA? Yes. Are they taking advantage of the public's adolescent desire for a quick and easy fix to all of their problems? Yes. Is the inappropriate marketing of antidepressants one of the reasons for our overmedicated society? Yes. Is it the only reason? Absolutely not. The vast majority of people aren't getting their antidepressant from some black market. They're getting them from their doctor. No doctor is required to write a prescription because someone walked into their office and requested it. They, above anyone else, are responsible for informing the patient of the possible side effects of the medications they are prescribing. If they are unaware of the side effects of the medications they are prescribing, than they are incompetent. If they are aware of the possible side effects but for some reason are unwilling to share this information with the patient, than they are criminally negligent. In either case they shouldn't be practicing medicine. It's their job to know what we don't. It's their job to inform us of what we're unaware. They are the one's with the fancy degree hanging on the wall and they are the one's charging exorbitant prices for their services. They need to make the time to listen to us. I didn't go to the doctor because of some commercial I saw on TV. I didn't go to the doctor because I wanted an antidepressant. I went to the doctor because I was having physical problems. God forbid they should do any work for all the money they're making. It's just so much easier for them to chalk most things up to depression and anxiety and hand out a pill. Ultimately, I was the one who chose to open the bottle and swallow the pill and I've beaten myself up plenty for making that decision. But where are these so-called medical detectives. I would have been better off going to an actual detective. As in private investigator. Being a doctor isn't like being an accountant or a truck driver. Doctors should be held to a higher standard. Any doctor that simply views the practice of medicine as a well paying 9 to 5 job is a disgrace. There are plenty of ways to earn enough money to buy a Mercedes or Jaguar. It shouldn't be the reason why people decide to go to medical school.
