Hello everyone! My name is Amber, and I am the mother to 2 year old

BBG triplets (BB have autism). I was hoping for some insight. My kids

have been enrolled in the ECI program since birth. I have been told

that ECI will not pay for ABA therapy here in Texas, although I have

read that it is covered in other states. It recently came to my

attention that some parents in this state have been able to get

coverage for their children. I am really interested in hearing from

these parents.

I have a meeting this next Wednesday with ECI (yearly review), and I

plan to request services (even though they've already told me they do

not have the funding). Has there been anyone here that has had any

success with this? How about anyone in the city of Houston (we have

BARC ECI)? Thank you so much for your insight and help!!!!

Yes, ECI paid for my son's ABA. ($3000 a month!)

They weren't happy about it, but did.

Email me at pinkie6@... for details.

I'm in Pearland.

I contacted the Brent Woodall Foundation located by Dallas. The came to my house and gave my son a free evaluation and their recommendations of ABA, OT and speech.

They also told me that ECI paid for ABA and coached me on what to say.

Basically, I called the director of ECI and told her "I want to change my son's goals. I want to add ABA immediately". She told me she would have to let an employee go in order for them to afford to pay ABA for my son. Do you think I cared what the heck they had to do with an employee? I don't mean to sound mean, but she was unprofessional to tell me that and 2nd, it's my job to get the help my son needed, it was her job to get it done - regardless of what she had to do.

Within 2 days she called and said OK. I notified The Learning Repertoire here in Pearland (where my son was already going and I was paying out of pocket).

The trick is, your child already has to be in ABA. You have to see that ABA works then go to ECI and say ABA is really effective and I want more of it.

Another trick is, the dr. that gave my son the autism diagnosis wrote a letter recommending 40 hrs of ABA per week for my son.

So, the dr's note I think really did it. I simply told the dr. (who started us with ECI) that ABA was effective for my son and I wanted ECI to pay for it. I asked if she would write a letter stating it would be effective for my son and he would need 40 hours a week. She had no problem writing the letter and already knew ABA is effective.

Brent Woodall Foundation also mentioned to be very firm when you request ABA. I was very firm and told them I had the dr's letter to fax to her. She could not tell me no after seeing the dr's letter.

You only have until your child is 3. I found out about this late, so we got to take advantage of it for 3 months until he turned 3.

A friend of mine also got the same ECI to pay for her son's ABA. It was 10 hrs a week, but that's all she asked for.

I hope this helps and good luck.

Hello Everyone we just moved from the east texas area and my almost 3

year old high functioning autistic son get this had a MD's order for

speech and ot 2x's a week and they told us that we were not getting

that much therapy. They also said that this much therapy went against

ECI's philosophy of teaching parents how to do therapy. My question

is what if I do it wrong and to be honest we just moved to the dallas

area and I have run out of ideas. I need more help and I really feel

that the ECI here is more on top of the game. I think he needs ABA

but I don't know what to do? This is my philosophy I have one shot

with Jordan and when he is 21 I want to look back and say that I did

all I could for my son.

I might be able to help yall with ABA. I am a BCBA and I file with many insurance companies. Please give me a call. Your children deserve the best services.

ABA is very complicated. I worked very hard and very closely with our daily in-home therapist. We had a good working relationship. When she left, I took over and worked to continue with the goals. I didn't follow the programs and record data when she left because I had another child to care for. However I knew what the goals were and worked intensively every minute of the day. With that said, NO WAY could I have worked through all that we accomplished without Spectrum of Hope (our ABA provider). ECI is ignorant if they think that parents can do ABA without close supervision. I remember crying while breastfeeding my infant in the doorway of the bathroom as I tried to stick with potty training goals. I was able to call Spectrum of Hope and they stopped what they were doing to support what I was doing. I taught for 10 yrs and successfully managed challenging children. Never could I have done what we accomplished with our son without a close relationship with our ABA provider. We now are running a sonrise playroom for social development. I highly recommend you looking into this. Since you are eager to do all that you can I must share also that without diet and other biomedical interventions our son would not be on the road to recovery. We follow Body Ecology Diet with much success. Thoughtful House in Austin recently sent their nutritionist and Jepson's wife to a BED training with Donna Gates. They will also advise SCD.Best to your child.> >> > Hello everyone! My name is Amber, and I am the mother to 2 year > old > > BBG triplets (BB have autism). I was hoping for some insight.
