Guest guest
Thank you Bev for posting that-- I want to share a message that I got from a mom off board today whose child had been having bad constipation issues. Makes me think I need to try this again with my dd who has constipation issues. My son (the one who had been on Miralax before, is going fine without the need for Benefiber. But now that he's in school and doesn't drink as much liquid during the day as he should, I do give him one fourth of a Fiber Choice wafer (inulin) and he's fine with that. Anyhow here's the message I got today: , A long overdue thank you to you. My 3yo had horrible constipation for months. You recommended trying benefiber. I tried it and she got the horrible allergy rash on her bottom so I stopped. MUCH later (having removed many other things from diet trying to get to the " bottom " of the rash ) I tried it again and there was no rash and now we are pooping every day. Nothing else we tried worked. Thank you so much. What a relief because as soon as she began pooping every day, potty training was a breeze. Thanks again. Btw -- a while back you had asked how Ethan is doing... he's doing pretty well. He's in second grade now, reading at a higher grade level, and all in all doing pretty well. Teachers and others do not see sensory problems with him at all, or if they are seeing anything, it must not interfere with learning or friendships or anything. He had some backsliding this summer in the sensory realm when he was exposed to some toxins (taking apart appliances... " hardwood " flooring that was just installed... airplane fuel fumes at the airport) and also some immune changes (from some bad bug bites he got on the East coast), and so I was *very* worried about him. But things have improved and are going well, at least for right now! ;-) Thanks for asking! > > I should also share that I started my son on Benefiber. It's a new > over-the-counter fiber product. Guest guest
Dear , Is that benefiber and adult med or is there a childrens as well? Also If you use juice + fiber can you use benefiber with it ?m w wrote: Hi -- I think, that if the child's constipation is solely due to a lack of fiber/moisture, then perhaps the benefiber can help--there are certainly kids on this board who have responded well to it. But there are those whose kids have a system that is more complicated and needs perhaps benefiber along WITH something else. My dd seems to need benefiber (tablet), one half of a fiber choice chewable, oxypowder supplement, and oranges. Others use perhaps some type of fiber, along with some other type of magnesium supplement such as Natural Calm... some don't need the fiber at all--they just needed a little more magnesium. Others seem to respond better to a different type of magnesium than what is in the oxypowder or the natural calm, such as kirkman's magnesium citrate powder, which is available at www.kirkmanlabs.com. I don't really know what the ingredients are in the Dr. Schulze's--I'd have to look that up later. Magnesium seems to be the one thing that is helpful for a lot of people/kids... vitamin C is another... and the b vitamins (a b-multiple, or the b that is also known as thiamin). There are also the things that a healthy gut needs, such as probiotics, the good flora that belong in the gut to help keep the bad bacteria levels down, and the intestinal yeast levels down. Anyone know if it comes in capsule form that can be opened? Or can you grind up the pills? Anyone had success with intestinal formula #2?Thanks,,Mom of 3, middle child 3 yr old son with CP, Hydrocephalus with VP Shunt, Cortical Vision Impairment, Profound Cognitive Delays, and Developmentally Delayed (non-verbal, combat crawling, can't sit/stand, bottle/soft food fed) - but very happy!__________________________________________________________Want a degree but can't afford to quit?
