Guest guest
Hi Kathy Keep up the good work! Its nice to know you are bouncing ideas on the group, one of them might hit the bullseye. I am interested in your point regarding strep throat and OCD, SSSS. I had terrible tonsils as a child and right through to into adulthood. I used to get tonsilitus (sorry if thats spelt wrong) all the time and really bad sore throats. I have a mild OCD and SSSS. I had my tonsils removed about 2 years ago (im 31 now) and the surgeon said they were real nasty looking things full of infection and he was suprised i was not ill all the time with them. Since having them removed i have not been ill once but still have the SSSS. Maybe the damage was done. I remember having bad tonsilitus around the age i started to notice eating noises etc. I was around 9 years old. Like i said early it might be nothing but its good to shoot in the dark as you put it, so keep up the good work. Neil > > I know that there has been talk comparing OCDs to SSSS before. Guest guest
This is very interesting, my son who is 9 was a very poorly baby was born 2 months premature and always had one infection after another, his last quite bad infection which only came about after blood tests being done was glandular fever. also suffers with a tic disorder meeting the criteria for tourettes and also shows signs of OCD which he is currently being assessed for by a child health team along with his identical twin. His ssss only came to light over Christmas last year although he had displayed dislike to a few sounds at a younger age coinciding with the start of the tics. > > I know that there has been talk comparing OCDs to SSSS before. Guest guest
I find this whole concept very interesting. I bet it is somehow tied to possibly even autism. I'm going to call the number on the website and ask more questions. Thanks, Kathy Howe Re: OCDs and SSSS and Strep This is very interesting, my son who is 9 was a very poorly baby was born 2 months premature and always had one infection after another, his last quite bad infection which only came about after blood tests being done was glandular fever. also suffers with a tic disorder meeting the criteria for tourettes and also shows signs of OCD which he is currently being assessed for by a child health team along with his identical twin. Guest guest
Thanks. I am going to call the number from the website tomorrow and ask more questions. It looks like it's a land area code. I'm in Northern Virginia which is very close to land. Maybe I can take Becca for a consult. Thanks for the input about your tonsilitus history. It just seems to confirm this theory. Guest guest
Hi. I too always had soar throats throughout childhood and also had strep around the same time that I developed my intolerances for peoples " habits " . It makes sense. Guest guest
My childhood was also filled brim full of sinus infections, and other respiratory tract related infections. My adenoids were removed early on, as a 4 or 5 year old. Not long after this my tonsils. They've tubed my ears on several different occasions. And when I was 14.5 years old I had an ear infection that nearly cost me my life. This last had me in the hospital for two weeks on an antibiotic drip. For the first week they were really undecided on whether or not they'd have to go in and surgically remove the infection, thus costing me my hearing in that ear. When I was 28 I had my 75% upper and lower turbinates removed in order to make room for AIR to go through my sinuses once and for all. To this day I have sore throat issues chronically, drainage problems, dry eyes, popping clicking and what have you throughout my entire facial structure that's sometimes audible to folks not in my head, TMJ--in general just a mess. Also been full of ticks throughout my childhood, most of them voice related (like an "nnnnnt" sound or a sort of grunting pull within my throat). But there have been a lot of non-voice related ticks. I have a feeling that the massive pain I deal with in my throat on a daily basis might be due to tissue damage caused by a neck tick that's been with me most of my life. One of the things I've done over the years is to get a handle on visible ticks, but this just moved them "in" to where they're not so visible, but apparently more damaging to cartilage and such as time goes on. So, there's so more stuff. kimpulsive wrote: Hi. I too always had soar throats throughout childhood and also had strep around the same time that I developed my intolerances for peoples "habits". Guest guest
Hi, I'm new here... I was reading through this thread and I've never had strep throat in my life, nor anything really mentioned throughout here. I do believe I'm slightly more prone to sore throats than the average person, but that's about it. And I do have mild OCD. However, what caught my eye was the " like an " nnnnnt " sound or a sort of grunting pull within my throat " written in the previous email. I've been doing that since I was.. I'd say 12 or 13. Maybe younger. Any ideas what that could be or why? When I was a kid and I started it, I thought I was doing it to make sure I still had my voice because I never really spoke. But it's continued to now, at 19, where I do it subconsciously and I have NO idea why. I do believe it was around that age that I developed my intolerance to people's habits though. I can't really remember when it started because I feel like I've been annoyed at everybody forever. wrote: > > My childhood was also filled brim full of sinus infections, and other respiratory tract related infections. Guest guest
Another? You mean I'm not the only one? lol I believe these are referred to as "vocal ticks", which can be related to things like Tourettes (if I've spelled that right). My childhood self was practically a poster-boy for Tourettes. One case in point: I would walk up to a gang of scary looking older kids and, when I became nervous and intimidated, I'd involuntarily scream, "F-ck You!!!!", giving them the finger, and then while they stood there in shock trying to decide whether the half-pint was worth their anger, I'd be bolting in fear of my life. Got beat up a lot. My father was driven completely out of his mind by my vocal ticks, and he was already very abusive, so you can imagine how that turned out. Looking back I can't really be sure what caused them. Even today I'll find myself having the same "feeling" or "urges" that would inspire the ticks, and to this day I feel a little too comfortable making sounds similar to them, like it could again become a habit that quickly. I put those previous words in quotations because I don't know a word that feels accurate to the actual experience, so those are approximates. ilovesajj wrote: However, what caught my eye was the "like an "nnnnnt" sound or a sort of grunting pull within my throat" written in the previous email.
