Wild rice

My daughter has been on Miralax for a while and I'm searching for ways

to get her off. One thing I just found that really helps is a serving

of wild rice--about 1/4 cup. I serve it with salt and raisins to make

it more child-friendly. It creates such bulk in the stool that it

gives a really good urge to go that is harder to ignore. Now I just

need something that will help keep everything soft. I'm thinking about

trying 's Aloe Vera juice. Is that still working for everyone

who's using it?

We are using 's Aloe Vera Liquid along with Benefiber and mag citrate that I have compounded into capsules from our local pharmacy. My cousin used Milk of Magnesium (concentrated) that worked for her. I need to look into this as this may be more cost effective for us.

I've found that I give my son "special chocolate muffins" (actually, they are plain bran, no raisins - as if he'll know). That in combination with 1-1/2 tablespoons of benefiber have been keeping him going. We had a four-day dry spell, and I started to get worried, but I added an extra tablespoon of benefiber and that night, viola!

It's hit and miss, but so far that was the only bump we hit.

Benefiber is pricey, but worth the try if you just need to keep things moving.

Good luck!

Forgot one other thing...my son is a vege-hater. Only potatoes, that's it.

We started back on baby food veges from the jar. That's been helping quite a bit. Usually it is sweet potatoes or sweet potatoes/corn or sweet potatoes/apple. Palatable for him, and definitely helps things.

Also, my ped suggested Gatorade, of all things. And it actually has made a difference. I'm beginning to think that maybe he has an electrolyte imbalance that's causing his BMs to solidify and not pass well. Who knows, but it's a cheap alternative and if it works, I'll take it. Long as it's not miralax.Jackie Hines wrote:

Gatorade...interesting... because last week my dh was having very loose stools and I couldn't figure out what it was... one possibility is that I had bought some Plum Smart juice--it is a new juice that contains plum/fiber. I had seen commercials for it but our safeway only recently started carrying it. My dd was drinking it by the cupful at first and it has a lot of potassium in it. It coincided with the very loose stools, but I had thought it was either a stomach 'bug' or something else I was giving her...but maybe it was the Plum Smart juice??

Now, of course, she doesn't want to drink it anymore, LOL! (and her stools are back to being pellety again and we're using the baby fleets again). But if it's due to the electrolytes, then maybe I will have to find a way to get it in her. I'll post if it is successful. :-)

If it's made from plums then it would probably have

the same effect as prune juice. Does it taste good?

I've never heard of it.

I strongly suspect that apple juice and apples are

binding in my kid. I thought only applesauce was

supposed to be binding. Any info?
