A protein (stage specific antigen) with the molecular weight of 35 to

37 Kda is expressed during the merozoite stage of the parasite, and

the body makes an antibodies against that protein.

Re-reading your question - I'm not sure what you're asking.

In my post - I *AM* saying that the 35/37 band on the old Babs

western blot that I had - could be cross reactive with the 35/37

band expressed during the merozoite stage of malaria OR might be

specific to Malaria.

As far as I know the western blot research for malaria hasn't been

around for very many years - so what they thought was a SPECIFIC band

for babs - might in fact be malaria specific (or cross reactive-

meaning both)... so there's 3 possibilities.

Except, Barb, didn't you say you probably got it from a transfusion?

Although have you been around horses (and therefore possibly ticks)

your whole life?

If from a transfusion, borrelia/malaria from one source seems

unlikely. It seems they would have screened for malaria even back

then? I don't know. And borrelia from one blood, and malaria another--

from somebody asymptomatic--seems odd too. Most likely seems

borrelia/babesia. On the other hand, the two together, 25 years ago,

was not common at all.

I 'suspect' I got tainted blood in the 70's. That's based on blood

profiles- pre operation - which shows no anemia and no screwed up RBC

profile - no high WBCs etc.. .. and blood profiles starting about 4

weeks post 1975 operation where everything goes haywire (operation

was at the beginning of Januaray and blood profile goes haywire the

beginning of February -

But I'll never know for sure, because by the time I got around to

tracing the blood (the late 1990s) and my records - the blood bank

records dept said I had a transfusion file, but the blood numbers

were missing , and they're needed in order to trace where the blood

came from - They think the data was lost when they went to a computer

system in the 80's.. just too long ago.

The Docs think I got Babs from either horses cows also - all of which

I was around for years - but all our animals were blood tested

periodically - so I didn't get it from any of my own animals...

But you know.. I'll never know for sure...

My official records now say " Presumptive Lyme Disease " - nothing about

Babesia.
