You are section hiking the PCT? One of my dreams/goals is to hike the Oregon section in '07! Are you keeping a blog? What section are you hiking [with out giving away details that would cause your safety to be compromised] :) I'm sorry :) I am just exciting to see other hikers here :)Lindy- just joined :)jjsmth@... wrote: I am leaving the 22nd. I am in northern CA. The first section I hiked was with my daughter from Mt. Ashland in OR to Seaid Valley. Then I had some medical issues for a couple years and when I was ready to resume hiking my daughter had decided not to do it any more. I thought about it for awhile and came to the conclusion if I did not go alone I would never get to go. So I took the section from Beldon on Hwy 70 up to Hwy 36. I had some emotional reactions during that short stretch (ie: what am I doing out here any way?!) but worked though it and fell in love with solo hiking. I went on and finished that section all the way to Burney Falls in another 2 hikes. I average 10 to 12 miles a day. So I am continuing on and filling in the space all the way to Seaid Valley. I can usually manage 2 of those hikes a year. A week or so at a time. So by next year I will have done that whole section and I will begin going north from Mt Ashland and south from Beldon.

My idea of a fantasy vacation is to take 6 months and do the whole trail. Unfortunately I have to work! lol

I also hike with my grandchildren. Most of them can do 2 to 5 miles...depending on age. My one granddaughter is a walker like grandma. She did her first backpack at 4 years old. We did a 14 mile hike in 3 days. She wants a 25 mile one this summer. She just turned 7. I am planning some overnights with a couple of the other ones as I would like to take them to the Grand Canyon and need to be sure they can handle that strenuous of a hike.

I also am planning a Lost Coast hike with a couple friends this summer. I will be doing a lot of hiking!

No I do not have a blog. Actually I am not sure how to do that. I keep a journal and have had several people tell me I need to write a book. Maybe some day! lol
