Like the Bb spirochete it goes into cell wall deficient stages, invades > the tissues deeply, red cells and white cells, CNS. By the way - who has seen this? One of Dr Mattmans footnotes on the subject (ed 3 page 122) points to a ref not actually concerning treponemes - it seems to be a error. I have been trying to get something else she references in this connection, " Cycle Evolutif du Treponema Pallidum [...], " but its a lil obscure, I checked the whole magazine rack at 7-11 and didnt see it maybe I can get it at the Natl Lib Medicine. I do have the Warthin aortic focal lesions autopsy from ~1930, thats an interesting read. Apparantly theres also a review re evidence for suboptical forms (which I think concludes they dont exist, perhaps rather cavalierly) somewhere in a huge review from the 1970s published under the auspices of the WHO - Natl Libe of Medicine doesnt have it, I guess they can probably order it for me.
