my opinion:

1) Not more difficult, just easier not to.

2) Probably but a lot do not care. i.e.: the soda companies fought to keep aspartame off the market as it is not really a safe ingredient especially for diabetics, but they were among the first to use it when it did go out on the market.

3) Wow...have to think about this one!

4) I have no idea who she is! lol

Well, they are trying to explain WHY, in a society where so many are obese, we are living longer. But no, the stats for kids would NOT raise the average lifespan figures...

What I read is that adults are not actually living longer...but babies and children are which gives us an overall longer average life span

Hi Sue,

First off I have read most of your posts and I don't disagree with what you have said. In this case however the stats for kids do raise lifespan figures. 100 years ago children and infants were dying more frequently of childhood diseases than they are now. Since more kids are surviving these diseases there are less low numbers going into figuring the average lifespan number therefore raising the average lifespan. I am not by any means saying that is the only reason for the average lifespan going up, but it definitely is one of the reasons.

Have a great day!

I agree about being fat...some people are and some people aren't...for a variety of reasons...bad habits, genetics, illnesses, etc.

But in figuring average life spans they take the ages of ALL people who die and then average it out...so it does include kids. However I also agree that it is a silly way to do it.

I have to agree with on this one. The childhood

mortality rate definitely effects the average life

span.

This is true by all that I have read also.

I also read someplace that the average life span of 60 year old is very close to what it was for 60 year old people a 100 years ago.

that wouldn't make sense because kids died too early to affect the adult status - I believe deaths of kids are not reported or taken in consideration - that just sounds like some excuse people are making NOW to explain why, when 60 percent of the American population suffers the dread obesity, we are living MUCH longer than even 20 years ago! :)

And anyway, kids haven't died off like that since before the 1930s when the lifespan wasn't all that much higher. In the fifties it wasn't that much higher, maybe somewhere in the 60's and no one was fat in the 1950's...

I think it's like the new CDC stats which put obesity as LESS dangerous than guns... no one wants to admit it... LOL

hugs,

Sue
