I've been meaning to ask you about those bastards, having learned alot since the last time I heard about them in detail, which I dont think I can dig up as it was near a year ago. Were they pseudos? Any thing else in there? Was it from bone surface, bone interior, somewhere else? I wonder what the lab meant by " resistant. " Even wild-type (non-drug- selected) pseudos can have high MICs due to their amazing instrinsic resistance powers (part of which I psoted on this morning). Looks like quinolones, carbapenems, and aminoglycosides are among the few drugs that can get them.
Guest guest
I've had a number of cultures done (of course not by ENTs or oral surgeons, they don't bother). In those cultures, both bone and nasal, I've tested positive for several strains of staph, strep, pseudomonas and a few others I can't think of right now. Pseudomonas usually needs multi-drug therapies if you've got any chance of beating it. Interestingly, Stanford University just told an ENT here in San Diego treating a friend of mine that if it doesn't respond to any abx, to do betadine (iodine) nasal rinses. I'm waiting for my drug store to recieve some they ordered for me and am going to give it a shot. penny > > just throwing random drugs at something is no guarantee.
