Frozen milk

Hi all,

I've been getting fresh raw goat's milk which has been wonderful, but my

source has dried up the herd as they will kid soon. I can get frozen goat

milk but am having problems using it. The freezing changes the flavor and

my boys won't drink it, plus it separates out when thawed and is very

grainy. The kefir I tried with it came out all separated and yuchy. I

tried hot chocalate this morning for my two boys, but they didn't like the

grainyness. Does anyone else have these problems and is there anything I

can do to make this frozen milk more palatable?

Thanks,

Do you think it would be better for me to drink the local goat milk fresh

or to buy a bunch of milk from the better fed goats and freeze it? Does

freezing it greatly alter the nutritional value of the milk?

Thanks so much for all your input!

Barb

****Barb,

According to Bieler it does. From my clinical experience frozen milk is

worthless. Plus, the taste of goat milk seems to become much stronger

when frozen and thawed.

I can't comment on the relative *value* of frozen milk, but I can absolutely

back you up on the strong " goaty " taste of frozen goat milk. Just a couple

of days ago I put a cup of frozen blueberries in a bowl and poured goat milk

over them. The goat milk that I usually get has absolutely no " goaty "

flavor, but the flavor was almost overpowering in the slushy blueberry and

milk mixture.

We buy milk from an excellent goat farm here and you honestly can't tell the

difference between fresh and thawed frozen milk. Either is really good the

first day or so and then it begins to get goaty. I think the flavor of the

frozen is so good because it's frozen immediately after milking.

I think you're right ine. If I freeze milk immediately it is much better.

Fact is, I don't bother freezing it unless it is done an hour or so after

milking.

I'd love to know more about it and can't find the post. What state is this?

What city? Do you have a phone number?

Thanks,
